Comments about Mountain House Macaroni and Cheese - 2 Servings:
Easily the best freeze-dried food out there. Tons of calories, high calories-per-weight, lots of fat and protein, and tastes good. Yes, it has a lot of salt, but what freeze-dried food doesn't? I use these just about every other night on long trips, and I can feel the 900 calories propelling me the next day.

Comments about Mountain House Macaroni and Cheese - 2 Servings:
The Mac & cheese from mountain house is really quite good. It reminds me of cafeteria Mac which is a good thing in my book. Great calorie count for the trail and a pretty high amount of protein per serving. I wouldn't suggest eating this stuff all the time but for up in the mountains it's perfect. This is the only meal that I use the full 2 cups in preparing but I prefer my Mac to be on the creamy side so experiment with what you like. Make sure to drink water after you eat to help your body with digesting the dehydrated food. It needs it even when the food is rehydrated properly. I would say that unless you are a light eater to bring a pack per person to really fill you up after a long day on the trail. Great product.

This stuff is really good. The sauce is cheesy. Some of the noodles didn't completely rehydrate and get completely soft, but I don't mind a few chewy noodles when the product overall tastes so good.

Comments about Mountain House Macaroni and Cheese - 2 Servings:
I had been a regular user of Mountain House foods and found them quite tasty. During a week long trip to the Adirondacks this past July, we decided to mix it up and bring entre flavors we hadn't yet tried. Mac n' Cheese sounded like a great comfort food until we ate it and were quickly hit with abdominal cramps and the need to use the "bathroom" for the better part of the day! I was trying to figure out why I felt so sick and in reading the ingredients on the Mac n' Cheese package found that it lists "natamycin" as a mold inhibitor. This is a topical anti-fungal medication. Want to know what else kills mold? Penicillin. I have an allergy to Penicillin and was not at all surprised to find the culprit of my abdominal discomfort to come from a medicinal "mold inhibitor".

Tastes like velveta cheese soup and crunchy noodles. And yes, I did cook it as directions stated.

Comments about Mountain House Macaroni and Cheese - 2 Servings:
I love most of the Mountain House freeze-dried foods, but this one was gross. It took forever to make, then when it was done, there was too much sauce,(even though we used the amount of water it said on bag) was very unhealthy, and tasted terrible. No flavor, and if there WAS some flavor, it wasn't one you would want to eat. Save your money on this one, and insted I would buy either the Beef Stroganofe, (I'm a terrible speller) Chicken and Noodles, or the Chicken Teriaki.

We took this on a trip with a variety of other foods, and it stood out as the absolute worst. Tasteless and way too much sauce.

Don't listen to the bad reviews on the mac. I've used several mountain house items over the past couple years and trust me when I say, this is the only one that is worthy of replacing your favorite home recipe. Sure, there are many other good MH dishes, but when I (who is not a mac n cheese fan, ask my wife) am only putting one review out here and only for the mac, you know it's gotta be good. Even if you don't like mac n cheese, you've gotta try this! Even if only for at home! You'll be like... WOW!

Comments about Mountain House Macaroni and Cheese - 2 Servings:
I buy a lot of Mountain House meals for backpacking; this is another good one in their line. The noodles are nice and plump and the cheese coats them pretty well, particularly if you use a little less water than MH suggests (about 2 oz. less seems about right). Like most of their other products, one "two-serving" pouch is too little for two people but just right for one, though watch out for the sodium content--as I recall this one was particularly high in sodium, though you also get a lot of protein for muscle recovery.

We used it on a 50 mile backpacking trip and loved it. For variation, we added a foil pack of tuna to it. Plan to use it again when we're on Isle Royale this fall! It does need a bit longer cooking time.
