My Amazing Underwear

It was day five of backpacking the ancient pilgrimage of Saint James in Spain. Nothing went according to plan.

We dried and packed the tents and headed to the next city where we met an old friend, toured his pilgrim hostel, got caught up, and nurtured pilgrim community. But, since I was on kitchen duty and everything was running late, I had no choice but to go straight to the new camp site and order around my 'sous-chefs' who saved the day!

On this day I was singing many praises ...
- of cars that started without a push-start.
- of the sous-chef volunteers chopping large quantities of vegetables for our French stew!
- my amazing hubby who did lots of chores for me so I could catch up my laundry!
- And EXOFFICIO Underwear! I knew the packaging boasts "17 countries. 6 weeks. One pair of underwear." but I've always packed two or three pairs just to be safe. And until now I haven't had to take them up on that challenge.

It was dusk as dinner transitioned into our meditation time, and night had settled in when I was free to slip away into the showers. That night I just jumped right into the shower with my clothes on and a bottle of laundry detergent. I came out squeaky clean and my clothes smelled great. I don't recommend laundry detergent as a shampoo agent ;)

Here's what you do :
- Buy ExOfficio underwear at your local REI or online.

- Wash your underwear in the shower with liquid detergent (not while you're wearing them please), rinse, wring dry.

- After drying yourself, wrap your exofficio up in your fast drying micro-fiber camping towel, twist, twist, twist. Then put on your already dry undergarments!!!

- Get dressed. Feel Fresh.

- Take on the world. Do it all again!

This was the only top underwear that I took on a two week trip to Mexico. I followed directions for washing, and though a bit clammy 6 hours after washing, I still wore it without chafing.

I'm used to only wearing cotton camisoles--not practical in a warm, humid climate with only access to cold water in a sink for washing.

I loved this top and would highly recommend it, not only for traveling, but also for day to day use.

I believe this tank is best suitable under clothing, it is made of the same mesh as the panties which I own. it is very lightweight and is suitable as an undergarment tank. It is not suitable, in my opinion, as outerwear. The price is also reflective of this, it is priced for an undergarment. As that, it is okay.

I brought two of these on a backpacking trip in Costa Rica. In addition to a couple pairs of Ex Officio briefs, they were the best choice I made in packing. Fabulous in hot weather--especially really, really hot, sticky weather when you have roommates and you can't go topless. You can wash it in the sink and it will dry in a few hours even in high humidity.

My only complaint is that this tank runs super-small--it's very short (just to top of hips). This is partially a factor of not allowing room for larger chest sizes--if you're over a B-cup, order a size up! Maybe the company would consider making an XXL size, or one better tailored to ample-chested women.
