It's a big work horse. Get a few. You will get stronger. Just don't drop it on anyone! They really need to make it 25% smaller.

Comments about Omega Pacific ISO Locking Standard D Screwgate Carabiner:

These were my first lockers and I still use them for anchor building when I take people out for top rope sessions. They've taken a beating over the years but they show little wear and the screw gate still works well.

The weight is a deterrent to taking them on lead, as is the smaller opening that can make anchor building a chore after a hard lead.

Best Aluminum carabiner for the money

Comments about Omega Pacific ISO Locking Standard D Screwgate Carabiner:

So far as Aluminum carabiners go, I think this is the best deal out there. It locks up tighter than the $16-$20 Petzel or Black Diamond, it's compact, lightweight and very strong. I have 6 of these, and I use all of them. They work especially well for (non-rescue) anchor systems, the 1-inch webbing fits perfectly in the ends.

Comments about Omega Pacific ISO Locking Standard D Screwgate Carabiner:

This is a great, strong, low-cost carabiner that is perfect to start the rack of a beginning climber. I bought these as my first lockers and still use them to setup anchors all the time. My main lockers for ropework now are the Black Diamond Rocklock Screwgate biners simply because they are easier to clip and unclip and because they have a much bigger opening. That said, the OP ISO Carabiner is a rock solid carabiner ready to use in any high stress systems. They are great for anchoring Tyroleans, rescue systems, and just about any other anchor system where you can take your time to set it up.

Comments about Omega Pacific ISO Locking Standard D Screwgate Carabiner:

Too heavy for spoiled modern lead climbers, and too-small-opening for complicated anchor building (and never intended for belay or rappel use!). But these 'biners are so durable, strong, and inexpensive, they're perfect for setting up top rope anchors for large groups (though OP's locking ovals are better for the powerpoint). I keep a handful around just for those big group days, and save my ultralights for myself!

        • Top rope anchor

Comments about Omega Pacific ISO Locking Standard D Screwgate Carabiner:

The gate opening is too small to properly use for belaying or rappeling, clipping a rope into it is a pain, and it's too bulky to rack gear on. But, it's beefy so it would work well for a top rope setup.

This is probably the best D or even locking carabiner on the market with the 31kN(6967Lbs) of strength and a price of about $8 I would buy these whenever I need a locking carabiner.
