REI Members get back an estimated 10% on this item as part of their annual member refund.

    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

by fromSo poor the squirrels wouldn't eat it If you like salt this is the meal for you. A pasty mash of gray ooze this stew has all the culinary pleasure of a salt shaker dredged in glue. While preparing the meal I accidentally sloshed out some of contents on a rock. With so many little critters and birds in the area it was sure to be picked clean by morning. Only it wasn't. Our wild friends wouldn't even touch the stuff! Spare yourself this misery and choose something with actual flavor.

by fromAlmost forgot it was dehydrated Bought this in preparation for my first camping trip in 30+ years. I had experimented with another dehydrated meal and had put too much water in it which resulted in no texture and little taste. I measured more carefully with the Beef Stew and was amazed at the texture and taste. The only reason I was aware it was dehydrated is that I ate it right out of the bag. This will definitely be on my future shopping lists.

by fromShould rename it: Salty Grey Potato Stew I ate this after a brutal, rain soaked hike into the Smokies and even that was not enough to make this stuff palatable. It tasted so bad I could only eat 1/3 of it. I was mad that I wasted the water hydrating it then had to pack out all the leftovers. Mostly potatoes, salty, oatmeal consistency - Yuck.

by fromThe Worst Stew in the World It's fine if you love peas and salt. The pouch I had when made as the directions said mine was a pasty green and so salty all I could choke down was one bite.

by fromNot bad Not the best but I would eat it again. I somehow found this meal lacking seasoning. So many said it was salty, where as I found it rather bland and in fact added salt. Either way, not great, not horrible. Worth a try in my opinion!

by fromQuick and easy and better than expected O.K. last time I ate this type of food was in the Army in 1992.Compared to that style MRE this is a 10 out of 10 in terms of taste. My 11 year old daughter, my wife, and I enjoyed this while Hike-in camping at Afton State Park here in Minnesota. Says it serves 2 and I would agree.I'm 255# and I could eat a whole one w/bread and be full after a long day hike but for you average size folks it should do just fine.Good results in bag or on stove w/lid top. Good seasoning not to heavy and good veggie/beef ratio. My daughter loved the gravy and at 11 shecan make her own (supervised). Wife liked the reduced pack weight and enjoyed the taste but added salt/pepper. If you are just getting started on this type of food, put this brand on your "try" list. It is the food we now have on our supply list.

by fromMy favorite backpack meal. This is my favorite backpacking meal, because it provides both meat and vegetables and tastes good. It is light weight and easy to prepare. It would be better if it contained less potatoes. I find that the package labeled as serving two is fully needed for my own meal. In addition, I have two packets of oatmeal and two packets of powdered hot chocolate for my dinner to be fully nourished for my backpack dinners.
