I had high hopes for these shoes as they were well rated and a women’s size UK 9.5 which is hard to find. They were very comfortable and didn’t require any break-in period. I wore them hiking for 4 days, during which the cushioned lining ripped all the way through on both shoes; on the outside near the ankle and inside on the heel. I have never had a pair of shoes deteriorate this quickly. Disappointed is an understatement, these shoes are ready for the bin and they’re almost brand new!
I was very happy to finally own a pair of Salomon hiking shoes and found them comfy since first try. They performed well in my weekly hikes(city hikes in LA not strenuous at all), but after at most 6 wear/about a month after the purchase, the inner sides were ripped... Such a bad experience and it honestly felt like I was given a defective pair...
Bought these shoes three weeks ago and spent the first two weeks breaking them in across city parks before spending last week walking part of the South West Coast Path with them - during this week long hike the shoe fabric tore in three places! Two tears are inside in the heel area where the two different types of material were stitched together (which now presses hard surface underneath the fabric against my heel, even painfully piercing through hydrocolloid blister patches), and there's also one external tear near the toes area (which would likely compromise the waterproofing of the shoe). I was really hoping these shoes would last for many years and hikes!...

I purchased it in mid Aug, It is very comfortable and the only shoes that I can wear everyday for walking due to my heel pain, but I am very disappointed because the fabric on top and inside the shoes came off after 3 months, and make it uncomfortable to wear them now.
We apologize for all the inconvenience with your shoe. Please note that we have a two-year warranty on all our shoes. If you qualify for the warranty, please submit all the necessary information at the following link. https://www.salomon.com/en-ca/shop/contact/warranty
I took these shoes on one hike in the snow and one hike in the mud. Great grip in both situations and totally waterproof (of course I wore gaiters in the snow...the low tops would probably benefit from a summer gaiter in dusty dry conditions to prevent tiny rocks from wiggling in). I really love not needing to tie my shoes, the pull cord is super convenient and keeps the shoes on snugly and I appreciate the pocket to tuck away the excess cord. The footbed is really comfortable under my arch and really nicely cushioned, these will definitely get a lot of trail use this summer. Downsides: I can't say these are the cutest shoes out there. Of course cuteness is a matter of taste but my first reaction was that I wasn't about to win style points on the trail. Which I don't care about if my foot is happy and I'm not sliding off things to my peril. Also, on the first few wears because the material was stiffer when I walked the front of the shoe bent and pressed into the top of my foot. As it is worn in I think this problem will lessen and it didn't actually cause blisters or anything on my few hikes before reviewing. Additionally the shoes run large and I think I could've gone down a half size. But it is nice to have lots of room for my toes to splay and to make sure that if I kick a rock I won't stub a toe. These shoes win on comfort and ease!
I bought these replacement shoes after my Sense Rides wore away quite quickly around the heel. I am very heavy footed (for a relatively small person). I wore them for a few weeks for general walking and a few practice hikes prior to setting off on the Pennine Way on 4th May. 17 days later and whilst looking a little bit worse for wear - wear well they did. I’ve had trouble with blisters in the past but not with these (and my Bridgedale socks tbf). Absolutely love them - I know I need to clean them but then they won’t look the same!
I bought these boots to replace my second pair of Oboz. They felt good right out of the box and wearing around the house. However, the first time I took them out on the trail the tongue would not stay up in place no matter what I did. It was very annoying having to stop every 5-10 minutes, loosen the laces, pull the tongue up and re-secure the laces (not to mention falling behind everyone else!). Also, the lace was so long it was hitting the ground unless I tucked it up in the tongue with the slider piece. I could slow the tongue sliding somewhat by really tightening them up but then was getting a hot spot in the collar area. They are going bac!
I purchased the Salomon X Ultra 4 Wide Gore-Tex shoes in a size 7.5 to wear on our vacation in Maine for general hiking and one mountain hike. I couldn't find a wide waterproof shoe locally, so based on the reviews I took a chance and ordered these. I'm so glad I did. Maine had two late storms and Mount Chase was blanked in deep snow up to 18” deep! It was warm and sunny, so the snow was melting underneath and my new Salomon’s sloshed through, often breaking through to the mud or melted snow below. The dirty girl gaiters kept chunks of snow out, so my feet only got a little wet when they were briefly submerged in water. Pair that with a pair of darn tough socks, and you’ve got a winning combination. How is the Width?: I cut a bright orange piece of paper to match the widest part of the shoe and it measured 3.5". With the paper under my foot viewed from above, it isn't visible at all unless I lean slightly left or right. These shoes are the perfect width for me. I hope that helps you decide if these are the right width for you. Comfort? I had more room in the shoes than I have with any others, so at first, I wondered if my feet would slide a bit and perhaps cause blisters. I was on my feet for over 9 hours that first day and my feet did not hurt at all! They were very comfortable. Laces? I appreciated this style of laces because they don't come untied. Sole? There were some steep places on Mount Chase where I had to kick the snow with my toe to get a grip and climb higher. These shoes performed beautifully for this mid-50’s Florida native who had no idea she would appreciate the grippy outsole so much! I have never written such a detailed review, but I appreciate the design of these shoes so much and wanted to share. I highly recommend them!
I purchased the X Ultra 4 Gore-Tex shoes in July last year, and overall, I was satisfied with their quality and comfort. They provided a comfortable fit, allowing me to walk a considerable distance of about 150 kilometers. However, I encountered a significant issue: the shoes started to tear on both sides, resulting in them losing their waterproof feature. To my disappointment, I found that many other customers have experienced the same problem with this model, as indicated by various reviews. Considering the price point and the reputation of the Salomon brand, I expected the shoes to maintain their quality and durability.

These hiking shoes are very lightweight & flexible but offer great protection from all the elements. I’ve worn them for snowy hikes with microspikes and they’ve kept my feet warm, they’ve gone on rocky scrambles and sandy desert hikes. Just an all around great shoe. They did stretch out a bit over time, however. Steep downhill is no issue with these. The Quicklace system is also a real winner.
