Recreational Equipment, Inc., began in 1938 as a group of 23 climbing friends from the Northwest who banded together to purchase quality outdoor gear at reasonable prices. REI is now the nation's largest consumer cooperative, with more than 5 million members.
Our commitment remains the same today as it was for those 23 friends in 1938: to inspire, educate and outfit for a lifetime of outdoor adventure and stewardship. We volunteer to care for the trails, waterways and slopes where we play, and each year we give back millions of dollars to our communities and our members.
