Rated5out of5bywillo LfromLightweight yet supportive bootI'm not a hiker, so don't read my review if you are looking to conquer a mountain.
On the other hand, I'm a person who has always loved walking as a way to experience new cities during travel and also to get around my home town... until I broke my sesamoid bone (on the bottom of my right foot) and every step felt like I was walking with a pebble in my shoe. I saw my doctor, I saw a specialist, and I got custom orthotics, but I had pain from daily activity unless I wore my sneakers all the time. (Sadly, I hate sneakers. They just aren't me!)
I switched from Birkenstocks (too hard) to Crocs-plus-orthotics for indoor shoes, but I was really suffering as I ran around town in my capacity as a stay-at-home mom. My old Merrells (and even a pair of waterproof leather shoes by the sneaker company) simply could not support and cushion my injured foot enough, even wearing my orthotics in place of the stock insole.
These boots arrived a few weeks before a "trip of a lifetime" to Iceland. I wore them around town, and they seemed pretty good. I brought two other pairs of shoes with me (New Balance and Crocs), but I was able to enjoy ten days in Iceland with my kids, taking tours (gravel, sand, dirt) and walking in the city of Reykjavik, all without significant pain, mostly due to these boots doing what they should. My only pain occurred on the days when I gave these boots a rest.
I appreciate the good support, light weight, fun colors, removable insert, and the water-resistance of these boots, probably in about that order!
My feet do get very sweaty/stinky in these boots, but I prefer much lighter shoes, and I prefer natural fibers. I just don't get a choice about that any more if I want to meet my natural level of activity without significant foot pain. I experimented with my orthotics both on top of (in addition to) the Ahnu insole and by themselves, and they work best for me with both Ahnu insole and my thin (flexible style) custom orthotic.
I did experience the rubbing of the "folded" tongue on these once, but re-lacing solved that pretty quickly for me.
In general, I have a "high volume" foot, where the upper on a shoe can rub me uncomfortably on the top of the arch. In spite of this, these are comfortable with both insole and my inserts--I expect that means these are fairly high volume. My foot is otherwise regular width. I do wear a half size larger (from 7.5 to 8) when using my insoles, as instructed by my podiatrist.
I'm back today to order both styles of "shoe" in the Ahnu Sugarpine series, because I am hoping to have a little more variety in my shoe wardrobe while still avoiding pain.
It seems a bit stupid to say it, but I am really appreciative that these boots are CUTE as well as comfortable. I am a colorful person, and my shoes were really making me feel sad. These boots made me happy in multiple ways.

Rated4out of5byCyndeelouwhofromLight weight and waterproof !Super fast delivery, great color choices, lightest boots I've ever owned. Comfort right out of the box and break in period is minimum. Great with light wool socks, very breathable. Go half size larger if you wear thick socks.

Rated4out of5byRshipm1fromExcellent hiking bootThis Boot is by far the best hiking boot I've ever worn. These Ahnu's are comfortable Durable and waterproof. While slugging through the melting snow and a muddy creek these boots preformed. My feet were kept dry the entire trip and did not hurt once. I highly recommend these boots to the Women who enjoys cute colors and functionality. I wore these shoes a good two weeks throughout work and walking around town to break them in. As in other reviews about this boot I too initially had a piece behind the tongue that hurt my ankle. I had faith and over the course of the week I found this spot conformed to my body and no longer caused me any distress. The seems are sewn well and the sole is made by Vibram. A vibram sole is incredibly important for durability in a rugged terrain. I would highly recommend these to a friend. The only reason I have given this 4 out of 5 is because I haven't seen how long they last me yet. I'll let you know at the end of my Alaskan summer.

Rated5out of5bynngrinerfromAhnu!I was nervous buying this pair, took them on my first hike of 1.7 miles up an 1800ft elevation change and back down for a total of 3.4 miles. It was a trail I know I could test them out on every type of terrain you could think of except water. I absolutely loved them. Usually after a hike I cannot wait to take my shoes off and I left them on for at least 2 hours after the hike. They were amazing.

Rated5out of5bybeach partyfromThese boots are good for EVERYTHINGI am moving to Africa later this year so I purchased these in advance thinking I needed to break them in. Well I can't take them off. I wear them around town (they are too cute I get tons of compliments). I just went backpacking this weekend in 6+ inches of snow, 1200 ft mountain climb, 2 nights in sub zero weather. Besides not being insulated very well, they were perfect. As long as I was moving my feet they stayed nice and warm with just 2 layers of socks. I kept them in the tent at night so they didn't freeze. My travel companion actually purchased the same boots unknowingly and hers froze but in about 10 minutes of walking they were not stiff. My companion is a very experienced 4 season hiker and she said she gives them a 10. They have great traction but be careful on snow and ice they are a little slippery. Im looking forward to hiking in these guys in the spring. These boots fit like a glove the minute I put them on. You will not go wrong with these boots.

Rated5out of5byVali Loves TreesfromGreat from day one!Bought these yesterday for inaugural Christmas Eve hike. With trepidation (and backup moleskin) we tackled a 4 mile trail rocky trail hike with 1300 feet of elevation change - no break-in for the boots. And the results were fantastic. I had no hotspots, no blisters. And I felt very grounded coming down the mountain even though I was getting tired.

Rated5out of5byCTLfromNeed to be broken inLike a couple of the other reviewers, the tongue area around the ankle was VERY uncomfortable for me at first. I couldn't walk in these without pain, so I laced only the bottoms and kept the top loose. After breaking these in for days, slowly tightening the ankle part with the weird tongue over several walks, they finally now feel quite comfortable with the tongue conforming properly against my ankle. These are super lightweight compared to my other waterproof hikers (the pair weighs as much as one of my other shoes). I do not believe these were intended for any "real" hiking across rougher terrain and while carrying a big pack, as they look more like "urban hikers." Good for slush and puddles on an even/paved trail, light day hikes, that sort of thing.

Rated3out of5byNickelthepickelfromI'll try something different next timeFor the most part these are comfortable, however if you don't leave the top laces a little loose they rub your ankles
