Comments about Wilderness Systems Pungo 120 Ultralite Kayak:
So far, I have used this kayak as exercise equipment. I throw her on the cartop and drive a few blocks to a lake in a nearby park. I put her in the lake and paddle vigorously for an hour and then head home for a shower.
She handles great and tracks very well: i.e. She likes to go straight. Because she is so stable, I can focus on getting a good upper body workout. I also get to be outside with the ducks, geese and an occasional turtle or Merganser.
I can't wait to get her on a river with some current. I can see that being able to turn easily and quickly could be a problem. [This is the down-side of "Likes to go straight".]
But the main thing to share with you is that I am so glad that I spent the extra $$ to get the "Ultralite" model of this kayak. 40# is A LOT lighter than 49#. Everytime I lift her up onto the cartop, I remember that what seemed expensive when I bought her, was WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Service and delivery comments:
REI shipped the kayak to the flagship store here in Denver at no expense to me. The kayak arrived packed in multiple layers of bubblewrap and was in perfect shape.
From the initial sale to final picking up, every REI staff person was gracious, helpful and knowledgable. What a great store !
