Comments about Royal Robbins Zip N' Go Pants - Men's 32" Inseam - 2012 Closeout:
I bought 2 pair of these pants for approx. $32 each. Previously I had 2 pair of Northface light synthetic pants and they are still going after 4 years of day-to-day use. I wanted another 2 pair of recreational pants with pockets and zip-off pant legs for the gym, backpacking and lazy TV watching.
I will compare these two different products after owning the Royal Robbins for 3 months:
Royal Robbins Pants:
Lighter, thinner material.
Smaller thigh pockets.
Less durable feeling seams.
The pseudo belt adjusts well and stays put. The Northface buckle broke after 2 years.
Bottom of cuff buttons can tighten the pant leg opening. This is nice to close the bottom of the pant leg around the top of boots. The downside is when not wearing shoes, these buttons scrape on the floor and I step on them. Since the material is so thin the pant legs won't stay rolled up. This is the biggest factor of why I won't buy these again. I know how stupid this sounds, but it's a big deal when lounging around the house watching House M.D.
These pants are half the price of the Northface brand and I feel half-as-good owning them. I guess you've got a Sophie's choice to make in regards to quality vs. price. Try on different brands in the REI store to really know what you want.

These are well priced casual zip-off trousers. But they are NOT performance clothing. Fit fine-but waist too tight, waist button pathetic, storage compartment for legs cute but bizarre, pockets-too many and silly flaps and closures, mesh pocket lining will not last, bottom wide-leg function only closes with Velcro (seriously??!!).
So for casual trousers to wear out in summer and can be used long or short- these are GREAT
For anything else- Forget it!!

I wear hiking/outdoor pants everyday at work, as I am a biologist, and have found these pants very good. It would be nice to be able to put things on the belt but it is made in a way that this is not easy. The legs are great, and have expanding sides to easily slip off over your boots without removing them.

I received this pants, taking a risk on well cut off pants. I wore them around the house and didn't even take off the tags. As I zipped off one of the pants legs, I noticed that the zipper broke where you feed the "mouth" of the zipper onto the lines. I was appalled obviously and returned them immediately.
The materials seemed great, and they were extremely comfortable and fit well, unfortunately a broken zipper will just not cut it so I cannot recommend them.
You get what you pay for and there's a reason they're on sale.

Got these on clearance. Wore them once, washed them, wore them again and then ordered four more.
Very versatile. All pockets have velcro locked cover flaps and are also zippered. Lower sections unzip easily. Light weight, but perfect for distance trekking.
