Marmot Earlylight 2P Tent is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING price for something so darn good Love this tent. You can use it with just the tent, or just the fly alone. Set up is very easy, even in the dark during a good rain! Nice to be able to set up the fly first in the rain, than the tent under its cover. We used this tent almost every night during our 71 day bicycle tour through Europe, late Sept. into early Nov. in 2009. It kept us warm and dry through near gale winds and rain in Ireland, and Scotland, and warm through very heavy frost in France. It has since been on many other camping trips, and is still going strong. It has enough room to fit two people, who like each other no problem, I'm 5'1, my husband is 6'+ we were very comfortable. The only improvement I can think of is to give the fly a bit of an overhang at the vestibule doors, (yes, there are two) though no rain ever got in, we worried about it. We didn't even have condensation like many other campers in Amsterdam. The only thing I didn't like was the bright orange color, so we just bought the same tent in green. We explored other tents before we got our new green one, but this one is the same size, or a bit bigger, and includes the footprint, and the Gear Loft, which the others don't and they cost more... Go figure!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality with cons To start, I just got this tent a few days ago. I cant comment on rain or wind. Ive taken it out for one night in good weather. The tent materials appear to be of good quality. I got the green one and I absolutely love the color. I saw another review about how the tent isnt symetrical so I knew that when I bought it. One end of the tent is 39" wide while the other end is 54" wide. I absolutely hate that. I know it cuts down on weight but it really hurts the tent. Ill live with it just because I feel this is a tent of high quality. It just feels like it is well built. Me and my two 85 pound dogs slept in it with my gear. It was a tight fit. This tent is only comfortable for one person and gear in my opinion. With my dogs in there with me, I had to be careful when I rolled over. There was NO additional room to spread out. It worked though. It would have been better if I put my gear in the vestibule but I prefer having it inside with me. There is another small thing I dont like. The footprint doesnt have color coded corners on it like the tent and the fly do. This is something that they should have done because the footprint is 39" on one side and 54" on the other. It can only go on one way. Its not really that important but it would make it a quicker setup if it was color coded. I fixed this by attaching different colored string to the corners on the tent, fly and footprint. Now all I have to do is match the colors of the string on each corner and I know the 3 pieces are lined up correctly. This is a very good one man tent. One good thing that ive found is this tent will pack down smaller than the dimensions says it will. I have mine in a 11 liter compression bag. I strap it to my bag horizontally and it doesnt stick out on either side. Its 16" wide and 8" diameter. Its perfect for backpacking. This is a major plus. I fuss about these little things but Im a very picky person. In the grand scheme of things, I would buy this tent again. I really believe this to be a quality tent. Ive been shopping around for months and ive looked and played around with tons of tents and I really believe this is the best one for me. Simply put, no tent will ever make me completely happy. When staked down correctly, this tent is very stable and it has good ventilation. P.S. If someone knows someone that is high ranking at Marmot......Please ask them to make a symetrical tent in this price range. It would be perfect

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Outstanding - Made for the outdoors I absolutely love this tent and I have used many different ones and this has been the best. The inside gear pockets are numerous and gear-loft even better. The included footprint is a real plus! I have taken it out once with no condensation when other fellow campers had it all over in their tents. Like others have said, the included stakes are well above par and I really like the "skylights" in the rain fly. It is lightweight and great for backpacking. It can fit two snuggly but not a problem in my opinion because you want to minimize space and weight on the trail. It would've been nice to have a few more stakes and guy lines but that is one of my personal preferences.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good stuff It sets up pretty easily and is pretty comofrtable. I do not know why they made the floor non-retangular.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not Symmetrical With one exception this tent arrived perfectly as advertised. The exception being, it is not symmetrical. Following a considerable research period, I decided on the Earlylight. But am strongly considering a return for something else. Docked it one star for poorly documented specs. The advertised dimensions are 88" x 54". But those are the long dimensions. The tent is actually trapezoidal in shape. The short side or ends are 54" and 44" respectively. I had planned to use it as a 2 person tent and expected a snug fit but the trapezoidal shape affects the livable space. With our BA bags and air core mattresses we touched every side of the tent. There is no chance of sleeping head to toe in this tent, which was our original plan. I'm a snoring machine and this is the only way my fiance will agree to camp with me. When I opened the box today, the first thing I saw on the package tag was a trapezoidal shape footprint diagram. My heart sunk. We tested it in the living room and confirmed the shape. I don't fault REI on this one, because the Marmot site did not show a footprint diagram or mention the trapezoidal shape. This is ironic considering they included it on the tag. Even the pictures on REI and Marmot don't really let you get a good perspective of the narrow end. Again, I don't fault REI for using Marmot stock photos. I think this model is new to REI and there is no Green Vest review yet. Shucks! Having no field test I can only comment on a few other attributes of the tent. I was attracted to it for the fair price, light weight, extras and choice of color. Something about waking up in a bright orange or yellow tent just bothers me. I found the green optional color preferable. The footprint is included and also a gear loft. The gear loft did seem to have a slight slope to it; not sure if this was from a hasty living room set up or what. I was surprised to find above par tent stakes included. They are of the normal shepherds hook design but aluminum instead of steel. I guess they are standard fare for Marmot. There are extra stakes included to stake the fly down. It was a breeze to set up with color indexed tabs at the corners. The DAC poles are nice, but be aware they have a slight bend on each end. I'm assuming the bend is intended. The tent corners and footprint have snap buckles which should work well. This model has neat snap clips that attach the tent to the poles. This makes for very quick set up. I really like everything about this tent except the non-rectangular shape. It would be great as a 1 person or 1+dog tent. 2 people will be a tight fit.
