Rugged outer shorts are made from nylon to endure heavy use and resist abrasion, pilling and snagging; wicking finish disperses moisture for fast drying
Moisture-wicking polyester stretch-mesh liner shorts allow ample ventilation and the chamois pad conforms to body contours

Have to echo the other reviewer who found himself between sizes. I'm 6'2", 185 pounds and wear a 34 in just about everything. For me, the larges were too large, the mediums too small. The legs were a bit short too, but I like them long so maybe it's just me.

Unfortunately, these are going back, which is too bad because I really wanted to like them and they seem like great shorts otherwise. For the just-right rider, these will be a great find.

I agree with another reviewer that the front pockets are kind of useless. The side zip pockets are a good size e.g. cell phone, keys, lip balm, credit card, ID, but not a wallet.
These are comfortable and you can cut the cords that hold the liner/padding to the shorts so you can wear them when you are biking to a store/pub/coffee shop etc. I'm taking these on a 10-day trip to Europe as my go-to non-biking shorts since they dry so quickly and are comfortable.

Two pockets on each side have problems: the zipped pocket is impossible to unzip while rolling. The larger high pockets are positioned so that anything in them is on the hip bend, inconvenient.

Of the mtb horts REI carries in the store, these had the thickest padding by far which i wanted for my skinny little butt. My waist is a size 30, and REI's sizing chart says that i should wear a small. The small was too small, and the medium was much too large, fit like a large. REI needs to get it's sizing better sized....
