at first i left this in the dash of my truck for a day. i knew it wasnt efficient behind glass. after a day it showed that it charged less than 20% (one blink). i tested it to my phone in direct sunlight to make sure it was at least charging and it showed it charged. i left it in the backyard for another day. the unit only blinked 3 times which is about 60% charge. i live in vegas so the sun is pretty intense and there wasnt any clouds. i left the unit outside at 9am and until about 7pm sundown. the charge is way too slow. its great when you dont care and just leave your unit out all day, but for backpacking it isnt reliable to wait 2 days for it to build its charge, not to mention if you were to use it on the spot the charge is so inefficient that the device you would be using would drain more quickly than positively charge the unit. i think they used amorphous solar panels instead of crystalline panels.
bottomline: if you dont mind waiting 2 days for it to charge then buy it, but dont depend on it while youre out in the sticks...

We took this charger on a 200 mile kayaking trip to keep my iphone and ipod going and it worked perfectly. We need my iphone to locate suitable islands to camp on, while keeping the phone on airplane mode the rest of the time. the charger if in the sun all day can provide around 20% of our power, but it was also kept in a plastic bag which may reduce its charging power. this charger kept both electronics going and i would recommend it to anyone. it also worked great when we were in the mountains, even with shade or heavy cloud coverage it can still get a charge. i love this charger, served its purpose well.
