The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Double Diamond 50 Snow Pack:
This is (at least) the third iteration of REI's Double Diamond 50, and the third I've owned. I mostly use it skiing, but it was a great option as my only pack for a 8-day in kauai and worked great for that. Its smaller than airplane regs for a carry-on, too.
Design flaws present on the previous 2 versions have been fixed- better zippers (previously "waterproof" but very difficult to move and immediately prone to excess wear) and a flawed suspension (sharp ends on the "hoop" suspension blew out the bottom on previous pack) are much more durable. If color mattered I'd dock a star for the odd yeller color, but who cares about that.
It could be a few oz lighter, but the versatility it offers for carrying skis, snowboard, avie gear, camera gear and pretty much anything else (as well as back panel access) makes it well worth it. Very comfy suspension and great hipbelt. The only remaining beef I have with it carries over from the previous pack- a waistbelt that can't be cinched any tighter than 31" or so. My waist is bigger than that, but when my pack's loaded with heavy photo gear I like to really crank it down, but I'm maxed out against the buckle before I get it tight enough for descents or tricky sections.
All in all, REI's put together a very good winter touring pack here. Plus, as with any REI brand product, the ease of warranty service is unparalleled.

Comments about REI Double Diamond 50 Snow Pack:
I have been wanting to replace my old backpack with something lighter that also would give me quick access to my shovel without digging through the main pocket. This pack has all of the features I am looking for, the exterior avalanche tool pocket, A-frame ski carry system, and 50L capacity. Unfortunately I tried it on in the store and it is simply not long enough to fit my 6'4" frame. The shoulder straps were fully extended and barely reached my armpits. Please make multiple sizes for the backpacks.
