Comments about Salomon XR Mission CS Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I was very excited to purchase these and take them for a run. Unfortunately these shoes do not fit my feet. I have owned several different pairs of Salomon shoes (e.g., Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultras) and have really liked them. However, these shoes gave me extremely bad blisters on my arches after a 6 mile run on a smooth gravel road. I have fairly flat feet and these shoes seem to have high arch support. Also, the toe box seems much larger than the other Salomon shoes I have owned which I also believe contributed to my blisters. Since these shoes fit much different than other Salomon models, I encourage anyone thinking of purchasing these to try these on before buying!!!!
Although these shoes did not work for me, I feel these would be great trail shoes. They seemed very supportive and would be great on long trail runs.

Comments about Salomon XR Mission CS Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I've been using barefoot style shoes for trail runs over the past few months. I got these as hiking shoes. They are great for hiking shoes, good traction and comfortable enough to wear all day. The arch support is very pronounced and is taking some getting used to after wearing barefoot shoes for a while but if you want good support these have that in spades. Like I said I mainly hike in these but Ive done a bit of running in them and can notice the difference that the plastic spine makes in my stride... a definite improvement over my other traditional running shoes.
The heel of the shoe locks your foot in place very aggressively and I wear thicker socks with these shoes. They feel a bit narrow for me and while I love the lacing system it seems to tighten up at the top of my foot more than down at the bottom which creates a mildly annoying sensation when I'm not moving. Thats just me being whiny but I definitely recommend trying a pair on and walking around a store in them before buying (as I would with any shoe).

Comments about Salomon XR Mission CS Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I purchased this shoe after years of being dissatisfied with the overall construction of shoes nowadays. Normally I cut myself off at around the 70-80 dollar mark in sneakers thinking that you should only pay more if you are a proffessional athlete. Finally I talked myself into paying more thinking of the old adage "you get what you pay for" and I was training for the Appalachian Trail 4-state challenge (MD-PA line to VA-WV line, 44.5 miles, within 24 hours) and wanted something I could count on. Initially I was very satisfied. The shoe felt very comfortable, light, and forgiving on daily runs at local trails both gravel and natural. However, during the challenge (mile 11) the shoe started working against me. The sides of the shoe are so forgiving that my insoles were wider than the shoes insole thus I developed soreness in the area overhanging that on shorter runs was un-noticed. with approx. 33 miles to go I pushed through what became excrutiating pain and finished in 15hrs and 15min. only to be completely incapacitated for the following week with heavy bruising, swelling and what my doctor described as accute tendonitis in both feet.
In summary, I will admit that perhaps my feet were not used to the rigors of such a challenge but the shoe construction is far from stable enough for the same. This shoe is for the daily runner in my opinion, not for long distance challenges. I plan on returning these.

Comments about Salomon XR Mission CS Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Picked up this shoe becase of its wide and cushioned sole. I have been having some issues with stability with my previous shoe that had a much narrower heal.
Love the styling and the stability. The cushioning around the back of the ankle seems excessive and on my first longer run in hot conditions where I was sweating I got two nice blisteres on the back of the heal where this cushion rubs... I am waiting for things to heal up and I will give it a try with some higher and thicker socks because I really want to like these shoes! That said if they still are rubbing they will go back ;-(
