Comments about Seattle Sports Deluxe Boat Cart - Special Buy:
This is a fair approximation of a kayak cart. The first thing I did was remove the kickstand and flip it over so the crutch tips are up. Closed tubing sinks into sand and gravel less. An ABS tubing sheath protects its finish. The second thing I did was replace the toy linchpins with real ones from the hardware store. (Recommended; you'll end up doing it anyway when the ersatz supplied ones fall out.) Third, I replaced the silly plastic collars inboard of the wheels (essential, small, fragile parts, free to fall off every time you remove the wheels) with short transverse sections of garden hose that stay put. The last modification takes a while: scrub the wheels and leave them outdoors for a week to outgas some of their stink. The weak link is plastic wheel hubs but it should take years for them to brittlize and fall apart, especially if you keep sun away from them. Their design makes it difficult to inflate the tires but that should be needed seldom. The tires have tubes, which is good, but treat the stems gently because their far ends grind tube against hub. This cart can be used either on one end to bear half or center-mounted to bear most of the weight. The straps are sufficient for kayaks and most canoes but skimpy for fat open boats. The generous wheel spacing is valuable for stability underway but makes stowage tricky since the collapsed cart is as long as the open cart is wide. At full price I think this cart is no bargain but with care and some tinkering it will do the job so at a substantial discount it's worth considering. As usual, Seattle Sports has found a way to make a cheap, barely functional version of essential equipment, but it is functional and your life doesn't depend on it, so when it's inexpensive being cheap isn't so bad.

Comments about Seattle Sports Deluxe Boat Cart - Special Buy:
So far I like this product, however I have already replaced the tie down straps with better quality straps. The tie downs that come with this cart are of poor quality and diffacult to use. It took a little work to find the best way to tie down the kayak to the cart (those recommended in the directions didn't work well w/ my kayak) however once that issue was resolved all is well. Great way to get your kayak to the water when you are parked far away.
