    NEMO Bugout Shelteris rated3.75out of5by4.
Rated4out of5byfromIt does keep the bugs out.I've given this shelter both an easy and difficult to set up. When setting it up among trees or with assistance it is very easy to do. On the occasion when you need to set this up by yourself and don't have the luxury of nearby trees (or sufficient rope) it's quite a handful to get this shelter erected. That said it's quite spacious, more than enough room to cover a picnic table and still have room to walk around it.

We were very happy to have this along as the noseeums were terrible. Three of us sat in the 9 x 9 ft screen house for Breakfast and dinner and cooked in there and visited. Absolute pleasure with no bugs. When it rained the water ran off nicely and did not come through the mesh screen. We strung it between two trees and used treaking poles to support the other two corners. I am going to take this anytime I go where the bugs will be serious. Easy to set up and take down and the size of the packed unit was not too big. Easily fit in my sea kayak. The sides are easily bent in with a wind so you need to stake it down or put something on the mesh to hold out in a wind. Great product. I also have the Nemo 12 x 12 tarp which we used to cover our tents- also a great product.

Rated2out of5byfromLow Head Room, Design Needs WorkI picked the Nemo Bugout shelter up before a car camping trip with my wife in Maine. While hesitant to drop the cash on this, I knew it had the potential to keep fellow travelers comfortable for years to come. Potential mind you. Set up was a chore due to needing to find the right height for the ropes in the trees to lift the tarp the maximum height so that the bug netting would still touch the ground. The design is such that maximum headroom is at either "entrance" and then quickly tapers towards the middle. We positioned this over a picnic table and had to duck as we approached the table. I am 6' and my wife is 5'6". The netting was effective and we were not bothered by bugs. The tarp itself is heavy duty with durable-looking grommets for rope attachements. The mechanism to hold the netting up when not in use is not perfect. Best done with two people, the netting must be rolled up and then fastened to the tarp using a loop and draw system. These attachments are not well placed and we ended up with significant "drooping," that needed to be ducked under when going under the tarp. The Bugout Shelter performed its functions of keeping us dry and the bugs out. However, beyond that we were uncomfortable while under the shelter. After the trip I returned the bugout shelter, not satisfied with my experience for the money. If Nemo improves their design so that there is more headroom and a better design for holding the bugnetting is the up position; I would try a future version.
