by fromSorry I bought them I've owned three other Keen products and loved them, so I had high hopes for these in 5- to 10-mile hikes and light backpacking. Boy, was I disppointed. First, the good: Like all Keens they're comfy right out of the box. They also accommodate wide feet wonderfully. Now, the bad: The midsoles on these are so thin that you feel the tiniest rocks and pebbles, so your feet get very tired and sore quickly. Next, the Keen proprietary soles wear out obscenely fast. Don't know if it's a cheap compound rubber or what, but they're the real weak link in these boots. Finally, the build quality is just so-so. On one boot, the outside sort of collapsed, like a structural failure, so the heel cup stabs me in the ankle. The bottom line: After less than 50 miles in them they're useless.

by fromQuickly Disintegrated I purchased this boot to be used as my primary summer boot in Afghanistan. They are light and breathe well. They also dry quickly even after walking in deep water and mud. However after wearing them for about a month and walking less than 150 miles they began to fall apart. After three months they were nearly destroyed. I had hoped to get two Afghanistan summers from them but was unable to finish one. The soles are very soft and thin so that large rocks/pieces of rubble place pressure on and hurt when stepped on. These are definitely not designed for rugged use. For the price, I would not recommend these boots to anyone.

by fromVery nice for casual hikes Great for day-hikes on most surfaces, except trails with sharp rocks. I bought these as a replacement for Merrell Moab Ventilators, which are very comfortable but have soles that are too thin/soft for sharp rocks. These Keens are better in that department, but not by much, especially for the front half of the foot. They are very comfortable out of the box; no beak-in required. The insoles are better than the Merrell Moab's, with decent support. Nice toe room. Fairly cool for hot conditions. Haven't gotten them wet yet, so I'm not sure how quickly they dry (the Moab Ventilators are great for that). Pretty good grip on smooth boulders.

by fromVery comfortable out of the box On a recent day hike down the Grand Canyon, my wife's old boots failed 4 miles into the hike. We had to turn around to get her new boots so we could try the hike again the following day. Since my boots were a few years old I reluctantly got a new pair too just in case. We both got the Keen Alamosa. They were comfortable right out of the box, no break-in was needed, which was great because we had no time to break in. We liked the generous toe room, the excellent arc support, the light weight and good traction. The round trip down and up the Grand Canyon was about 18 miles over rocks in some parts. I could feel the rocks somewhat but not to the point that my feet were hurting or even felt uncomfortable. At the end of the hike, our feet did not hurt at all. We had to cross a few streams and some water seeped in the boots. If only they were waterproof, these boots would be the only ones we need. They work very well for us.

by fromGreat lightweight hiker ith support I love this boot. It was comfortable and sturdy with good support and great grip. I added superfeet insoles for extra arch support. The only drawbacks were that there was rub on the outer edge of the foot (the toe box is big enough for toes, but not for the bone where the pinkie toe meets the foot), and the boot already started to wear down (i.e. part of the exterior was coming off) remarkably after only 4 days of 10-mile hiking with a medium pack.

by fromlightweight and tough I use the boots to go on fast, winter day hikes- ones where I would normally wear trail runners in the summer time. I carry my daughter so I need the extra support compared to my minimalist trail shoes. I love keens products anyway, the wide toe box, and semi-level heel drop are excellent. Occasionally I take the insoles out and just go for it.

by fromAwesome! This was the first pair I tried on, was in REI all of 10mins and fell in love with these Keens. No retreat what so ever.
