Comments about Keen Voyageur Mid Hiking Boots - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
These boots are great. I love the design and they are very comfortable. They breath well (as my feet sweat at least twice normal people's feet, this is important to me.)
My only complaint, is that the top of the back of the boot rubs my Achilles(sp?) tendon. I've done some long hiking on rough terrain and it has never blistered, but certainly feels raw.

I have problem feet. I've usually used to much boot to compensate for this--most recently struggling with the long break-in and non-flex of some very expensive Limmers. However, as I live in Israel, these boots are very warm for most of the year. So, I figured that I would give these a try as breathable summer hikers. My first long walk had my feet hurting. I added some heel pads as I felt that part of the problem was the lack of a noticable raised heel. This was a big improvement for me. I have now worn them on a number of day hikes--some on very tough terrain--and they are very good. I did twist an ankle a bit in them--but that's because I didn't tighten them up enough.
I'll wait to see how they hold up--but at less than $80 bucks, I'm not expecting years of use.
Fit--I have slightly wide feet--sometimes too wide for regular, but often a wide is too sloppy. These work well for me. I ordered both a 10 and a 10-1/2 and the second fit. There was a very big size difference between the two--a large jump for a half size. Curious.

I bought these boots to suplment my water proof work boots which are naturaly HOT.
The Keens are great well made boots that keep my feet much cooler while I'm punding around on sun baked concret all day.
The padding & insole have sofar been very comfortable with no break-in time required. They were comfortable right out of the box.
But make no mistake if you are cought out in the rain or step in a puddle you will get your feet wet

A a middle-aged parent the ruggedness of my adventures is not what it was twenty years ago. That said, it should not take a great deal to make a shoe that is up to the task. Keen has made a very comfortable shoe, but has made little effort towards the durability.
I used this shoe for very casual day hikes and also wore them to work (I'm a high school teacher, not too demanding on the shoes!). On a recent trip to Utah these shoes came unglued, literally! We were hiking a very modest 3-5 miles per day and the soles of my boots began to peel off! Very sad. Also the heel seam began to shred! I've never had a shoe cave in to such casual use!
Don't buy these if you intend to do anything outdoorsy. If you just want some cool-looking and unusually comfy shoes to teach in..then these are the ones!
