Comments about Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Sandals - Men's - 2011 Closeout:
I absolutely love these sandals. They have been the best sandals I have ever worn. I knew the reputation of Chacos when I bought them and was pleased with the product.
However, these are not boots. They will take you further than you think but they can only go so far. I bought my pair a month before hiking the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim to break them in. I did enough research to know that it wasn't really the sandals that needed to be broken in, but my feet instead.
I hiked for a month preparing for a long trek and kept the distance to about 5 miles or less. They were great and I could do nearly everything in them and hike in a way that I had never hiked before.
On our 4 day trip the first two days were the hardest. 7 miles each through steep terrain with +30 lbs packs. I was worried about ankles support but I supplemented it with trek poles.
7 miles in steep terrain with a pack just pushes these sandals too far. Two days of this and my feet were sore tired and beaten into submission. I'm not going to talk about blisters or sores because you will get them if you push any footwear pass the limits of its design.
I recommend these sandals for day hikes and casual wear. They are excellent for average difficult hikes and the support and traction is the best I've seen. I will continue wearing these Chacos with pride and I don't think I'll ever change brands.
They didn't fail me, they did exactly what they were supposed to do. I just took them and broke their limits beyond their design. The fact that they survived that and that my feet and ankles are not even close to as bad as they could have been makes them a champion.
