Comments about Salomon Minim Exo Shorts - Men's:
I was tired of wearing basketball/training shorts when I go on hikes or trail runs. Most of the trails I go to have a few crossings so my shorts often get wet. I decided that I'm finally going to invest in a more specialized pair of shorts for these activities--my go-to shorts.
I wanted something that was light, breathable, wicks moisture, a little stretchy, and dries fast. These shorts definitely does all of that, BUT the compression shorts are a little uncomfortable to say the least. As soon as I put them on, I'll feel them for the entire journey. I've worn compression shorts before and these do feel like any other, so wear them if you don't mind it. On the other hand, the over-shorts feels so soft, cool to the touch, and unbelievably weightless, not to mention very comfortable; you hardly ever notice that you're even wearing it because it's so light and unrestricted, unlike the compression shorts. I prefer to wear the over-shorts by itself; the shorts are connected by four snap-on loops. However, if you wear the over-shorts by itself, the mesh (vents) that runs along the side of the shorts will pretty much showoff your legs, and it's actually a little too revealing and it looks really odd.. you can pretty much see the bottom of my boxer shorts, and that's when you'll start thinking twice about not wearing those compression shorts underneath. It would be nice to have at least one back pocket, and the side pockets could be a little deeper to keep things more secured without falling out. The drawstring is nice, it doesn't run all the way around the waist so you can't accidentally pull on one side and the other side disappears, although, it's kind of useless since the button does a good job of holding the shorts in place, not to mention the waist is snug because of its elasticity.
Here's what I recommend: if you're perfectly comfortable wearing compression shorts, then buy these shorts. However, I prefer to wear these shorts without them. I don't see why they had to sell them together; it's like buying expensive shoes with socks already inside. If you're simply looking for performance shorts--like the over-shorts--then this is not for you; it's too expensive because of the compression shorts, which is useless to me for the most part.
