Comments about Sunlite Utili-T Waterproof Bike Seat Bag - 2010 Closeout:
This little under-seat bag promised so much and delivered so little. Let's start with the positives:
1) Easy to attach and detach with a Fastex-like buckle and a velcro strap for stability.
2) Good size to hold a tube, two patch kits, pressure gauge, tire levers, multi-tool and some nitrile gloves.
3) Easy, secure closure with rip 'n' stick tape and another Fastex-like buckle on a length of webbing.
4) Easy to install, though mine didn't come with the allen wrench as described and shown in the product photo.
Now, the problems:
1) Bag is too wide for the location. It tapers very little side-to-side, and rubs hard against the inside of one's legs...and I don't have big legs.
2) Hook part of rip 'n' stick tape at opening catches and badly snags long-sleeved shirts and gloves.
3) Poor quality: Mine came with three broken stitches and some loose thread ends. Attaching and detaching it from the bike just three times led to the entire side row of stitching coming loose. Fastex-like buckles hard to squeeze to detach, and didn't always click into place securely.
4) Not waterproof! The description and card it came on promised "welded" seams. If they were welded, then water wouldn't pass through the lines of stitching as it does -- fail.
5) Materials are cheap and of poor quality; I don't think it would last long in continued use. Mine was actively wearing every single time I put it on and took it off the bike.
Bottom line, this would work if you needed an underseat bag to hold a few items for casual riding, but it would not be waterproof in a continued downpour or suitable for long-term use while touring or with regular commuting. The biggest drawback is it does not clear one's thighs and makes for really uncomfortable rubbing with every pedal stroke. I paid just a bit more for a waterproof version by a major brand (Ortlieb) and am now completely satisfied. In comparison, this is something you'd expect to find hanging on a hook in the sporting-goods section of a discount store; not worth the money, even on closeout.
