Comments about Emotion Kayaks Sparky Kayak - Kids':
I bought this as a first kayak for our 7yo daughter this summer. She loved it and was the envy of all her friends. This kayak was great for mornings on Lake Michigan when the water was glass like, poking around the local lagoons, and was easily packed for a trip to Green Bay. The kayak is easy to paddle when paired with the Bending Branches Whisper paddle. The tracking could be better, but I suspect the 6ft length has much to do with this.
Two cautions.
1.My daughter wished she had a backrest after about an hour of paddling. It's not an option with this kayak and there are no attachments for adding one if you could find it.
2. The weight limit of 150lbs isn't realistic for actual use. The stability is pretty good in a mild chop, but at 4'5" and 80lbs I think my daughter was reaching the maximum size for this kayak.

Comments about Emotion Kayaks Sparky Kayak - Kids':
We got this kayak for our 9 year old daughter. She is very excited about having her own boat. The boat is cute and very light, which is always welcome by gear-hauling parents. We started our daughter out on a lake, which was a good idea as the boat rocks some, which made her nervous and hesitate at first. After a few minutes, though, she was having a blast. The boat is very easy to paddle and maneuver because of its weight. At the same time, it can easily be carried away by a little wind so an adult must be able to reach the child at a moment's notice. The weight limit is listed at 140 lbs. but I would not recommend the boat for anyone over 5 feet tall. I am 5'4" and 122 lbs. and when I went to try it for fun, it was very tipsy. I'm sure it has to do with the center of gravity, which is not an issue for little ones, but I mention this in case any teens or grownups are tempted to buy for recreational purposes due to its low price. Overall, great starter boat for tweens. The plan is to eventually go down slow rivers, like the Hooch here in the ATL, for which I am sure the boat will be great.

My 7 year old son received this as a gift last Christmas. We took it out over Spring Break April 2011. He had only been in a kayak with either his Dad or I one other outing when we borrowed an Old Town kayak from the neighbors for a weekend.
He did wonderful! It was stable and he was able to maneuver on his own. We had gone with another family who'd never been kayaking before. Their sons, 9 and 7, did great in this kayak. Super stable even for two new beginners and they were able to paddle themselves. I will say that when the wind picked up, one of the boys needed assistance to paddle back in.
Because of all the boys ages, we were out near them in our own kayak, just in case, but a just in case never came.
Our son felt a sense of accomplishment and pride for being able to do it on his own. I felt comfortable with him in it for the type of kayaking we were doing.
