Comments about Arbor Coda Snowboard - 2011/2012:
Last weekend was my first on the Coda (or on any rocker board for that matter) and almost every time I was in a lift line someone asked me about it, so I figured a review here would be appreciated. For context, I'm a solid intermediate rider: I love a good steep blue, and if the snow is reasonable I can get down anything on the mountain mostly alive. I am not a fan of ice, and the only thing that I ever feel unsettled on is an icy traverse. I'm 175lbs and 5'10" and I opted for the 157.
This season has not been kind to Tahoe, so I got to try it out on all my least favorite kinds of snow. Our first two runs took up Red Dog, down to that resort on the other side, then back up and down Champs Elysees which is a long, winding, narrow run that had some pretty icy stretches first thing in the morning. On the flatter icy sections the board felt fast, but had a little more of a tendency to want to turn than the 165cm Element I scored last season. (It was a killer deal, and very fun, but too long for me.) The only big red flag for this board: It takes a lot longer to stop on an icy run. Turn onto your heel edge and dig in, and on really bad ice it just makes a scraping sound and feels like it's not slowing down much at all. Keep in mind, this is in comparison to my 165cm Element which has a lot more edge and is a camber board. I was able to stop, but was keenly aware I had less edge to work with on the rocker board. If I was a better rider I wouldn't be so whiny about it, and I was able to adjust, but it merits mention.
But that was on ice.. We found some nice snow off of Shirley Express with some short blue runs of respectable steepness. There the board was MAGICAL. It is the most fluid of the 6 or 7 boards I've ridden when transitioning edge to edge. It was downright forgiving when I got sloppy at the end of the second day as well. I'm less confident turning from heal edge to toe edge, and on my previous two boards I got into the habit of scrubbing off speed on the heal edge and then using that to pop through the turn quickly to my toe edge.. On the Coda it felt wonderful to just point the nose back down the mountain. I've never felt so comfortable turning from heal back to toe at speed. I swapped boards with a friend for a run, and his 157cm camber board felt a little more "dug in" on the same run, but the Coda has a much lighter effort to initiate a turn, and still felt confident going fast. I much preferred the Coda, and my friend said he could certainly get used to the extra nimbleness.
Off of Solitude we found some reasonable snow between some trees and down some steep rocky sections. I've never had so much confidence in rocks and trees as I did with the Coda's quick turns.
So when I next ride in terrible icy conditions I'll probably bring my Element for confidence on the brakes. If the snow is even slightly good, the Coda. I can't wait to try this thing in powder. I feel like I have a lot of growing to do with this board.

Comments about Arbor Coda Snowboard - 2011/2012:
I'm 6'2" 170 lbs and I ride the 161. This is only my 2nd season boarding so I'd say I'm intermediate - 100% comfortable with all New England blues and ok on most New England blacks.
Coming from a standard camber board the riding transition wasn't too big but the riding difference is very significant. This thing makes really easy, fast turns - crazy agility on the snow. I was able to pretty easily run down moderate mogul runs that wiped me out on my old camber board due to my not being able to make fast turns and adjustments as the snow depth/texture changed. I was also able to make those split-second course adjustments you encounter when riding the crowded narrow trails of a New England weekend.
In general the carving is much more like riding a long skateboard - really responsible and smooth transitions from edge to edge. It's also really forgiving if you get sloppy with your edges.
My first day with it was on semi-hard wet granular stuff and it was great. But it really killed on my 2nd day riding in the rare 2 feet of powder at Stowe. The reverse-camber design keeps the nose up really easily.
Only complaint: I don't know if this is a common problem or just one for my board but the factory wax job left quite a bit to be desired. After my first day riding I noticed that the red graphics on the base had started to burn off, especially near the binding contact points. I went and got a fresh wax job right afterwards but there was some permanent loss off the finish on the base. Be safe and wax up right when you take it out of the plastic.

Comments about Arbor Coda Snowboard - 2011/2012:
Got this board on the recommendation of an REI Employee. I was looking for an upgrade to my old Rossignol Scope. I mostly board trails but just started doing park features and this board easily handles both. The grip tech edge handles everything that the mild VA winter has thrown at it from slush to ice to the freak dumping of fresh powder we had Feb 12. Love the board so far, no complaints. The design and graphic looks incredible too.
