I'm an avid MTB guy and I took it out and on the first ride I consumed 2L of H20 the reader said I only consumed 35 oz.
Not accurate while taking abuse of riding...

Comments about CamelBak Flow Meter Hydration Gauge:

I purchased this flow meter to keep track of my fluid consumption on a 24 hour mountain bike race. When I initially installed the meter in my tube I put 24 ounces of water in the bladder and it went empty at 24 oz on the meter. First test was a success now time to take it on the trail. I premeasured 48 ounces of water into the bladder for a 2 hour ride. At the end of the ride the bladder was empty and the meter read 128 ounces consumed. As other reviews stated the impeller movement during use creates false readings. If I depended on the readings on the meter diring an endurance event the result would be disastrous.

This product is a great idea but clearly this design has no business being on the market when it is so fundamentally flawed. I am hoping REI will take it back. The bad news is this experiment ruined my hose so even if I get a refund for the meter I still have to replace my hose which is now too short.

I would not recommend this product until Camelback addresses this design flaw.

Comments about CamelBak Flow Meter Hydration Gauge:

When I first saw this product I thought it was clever. Keeps track of how much you have drank, how much is left, etc. What really sold me was the setting that showed how much is left in your bladder according to what you set it for. Figured it would be a great feature because it's kind of a hassle opening up you bag to check how much is left when you're on the go. Usually I'd go off weight, but when your pack is heavy it's hard to tell.

To start off, installation was a bit of a pain. Not only was I a bit hesitant about cutting my tube, but you really have to make sure you know where you want to set it cause once you cut you're done. Next fitting the pieces to the module took a while simply because it was such a TIGHT fit. But that's good simply because you know it's not going to slip off at any time.

My only real complaint is that no where in the instructions does it mention which side the module is supposed to rest on. So naturally I set it for my right side. After a couple hikes and trials I was extremely frustrated because I kept receiving false readings. Either saying I drank more than I have or too little. Finally I decided to just try it on my left side...BAM. Accurate readings ever since. I've taken this bag out multiple times for long periods of time without a problem.

As far as waterproofing goes, it is designed to withstand the average drizzle such as rain ranging from light to moderate. However, it is not waterproof so don't go out swimming in it. Haven't tested it in heavy rain so I can't say how well it does but as mentioned before in light and moderate rain there are no problems.

Gave it 4 stars because it is accurate and it is functional. But be aware of which side you use the tube on. I believe this is their biggest problem resulting in such bad reviews as stated before about inaccurate readings.

Comments about CamelBak Flow Meter Hydration Gauge:

After nearly running out of water on a hike to Kit Carson last week, I thought the flow meter would be a good safety device for my hydration pack. The problem is that movement of water in the hose during hiking, climbing, etc causes the impeller on the meter to move. Thus, this device registers mere movement as water consumption. After a 2 hour hike, the meter was >50% off. I returned it.[...]

Comments about CamelBak Flow Meter Hydration Gauge:

This produce seemed like a good idea, but it just doesn't work. First after installation I tested it for accuracy and it was off by more than 20%. It was also inconsistent. For two tests under pretty ideal conditions by the kitchen sink, even flow it measured 32 ounces as 28 ounces, then as 25 ounces. But it gets worse, since I had to cut my hose to install it, I had to take it on my outing. Then I learned that the motion of walking actually registers as usage when no flow actually goes through the flow meter. When I reached to take my first drink after about 30 minutes, it had already measure over 50 ounces of usage, and no there was no leak. At the end of the day it indicated that over 1000 ounces had come out of my 100 ounce (3L) hydration bladder. [...] However, I still have a cut hydration hose.

Comments about CamelBak Flow Meter Hydration Gauge:

I bought this to measure how much I was drinking but it's a very flawed device. I never got as far as how accurate it was because it just keeps resetting in use. In normal use the hose bounces around and it seems the flow meter manages to reset it self a lot meaning it wants to be configured again and loses track of the water drank so far.

It's hard to install. I have camel bak hydration packs but it s a very tight fit to get the pipes over the flow valve. I'd say I'll have to cut them length ways to remove them. I suspect the resetting is a battery issue and to reset it requires pressing both buttons for 3 seconds and I just can't see that happening so I think it's the battery losing contact briefly or something.
