Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
Years ago, I complained several times to the fine folks at Camelbak about this glaring omission. You set your pack down, and you valve goes on the floor or in the dirt. Sucks! Was thrilled when they came out with this, though I'd like to have seen a better implementation.
We all know why this is needed, so I'll skip the pros.
Cons:
1. Installing it. Can be a REAL PITA. You're trying to shove the valve's skirt OVER something, while it is trapped under this cover's skirt. Hard to get either on OR off, actually. But once on, serves its purpose.
2. Grows mold inside the cover. I'd like to have some slots at the cap junction so this thing is not air tight at the seal. I drilled two small holes for my own use, and that allows the valve to air dry instead of grow gack. The inside of the cover's lid is tough to clean. Also tough to drill through!

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
When backpacking, or even on a day hike, my camelbak bite valve often falls in the dirt. Just this past weekend, it must have ended up in the dirt 20 times. Combined with moisture, it became muddy. The bite valve cover keeps your bite valve clean!! Well worth it.

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
This has proved quite useful on the trails - keeps everything clean and keeps it from freezing up. I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to get a fresh taste of water and not dirt and trail grime. I do day hikes and some light backpacking and usually spend my time in the backcountry; bushwhacking, fording streams and stopping frequently for snacks and watering the dog. It was always such a pain to put my pack down and have it get filthy and waste water on rinsing it off.
That being said, the cover does have some issues:
- It's bulky and covers half the valve; making it hard to insert the valve into your mouth to get good suction.
- REALLY hard to put on. You have to take the entire top half of the bite valve apart and wench it on and off. I had a leak result from this.
Why isn't this included with the resevoir? It kind of seems silly that this is an aftermarket product. It's useful in any situation.

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
As with most reviewers, I got this because I was tired of cleaning dirt, mud, and who knows what off the bite valve. Good function, not so good functionally. 2 issues I have are:
1) when the cover is off and dangling from the bite valve, it gets in the way of taking a drink because of its bulk and short leash.
2) You have to remember to put the cover on (along with catching your breath, catching the scenery, etc.) right away or you lose the functionality once your pack hits the dirt. I've forgotten to put the cover on many times, so I wind up with dirt, mud, etc. on the mouthpiece anyway.
The need for this product is there, but the form and function could use improving. Not sure how to do it, but there's gotta be a better way.

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
Most of us who get our water locally go to great trouble and expense to filter and sterilize it. It makes no sense to then let our mouthpiece get muddy and full of germs from the rotting forest floor or contaminated water source or dirty gear and then put it into our mouth. Hey, I wash my tableware after every meal even at home, when only my own germs can get on them.
I just wish more of the parts were dishwasherable.

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
I don't see how the other brand don't have a cover (maybe they do and I don't know). My girlfriend has a hydration pack from The North Face and anytime she takes her pack off the bite valve is in the dirt. I just give her a smile, then she rolls her eyes and says, " Yea... I know, I wish I had a cover too" (some thing like that = )

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
I was thrilled when Camelbak came out with this bite valve cover. It seemed even when I was careful, I would end up setting the bite valve in the dirt when I took off my pack. Now I don't have to worry! It is easy to install and clean. Highly recommend.

Comments about CamelBak Bite Valve Cover:
I am extremely happy with this product, and did not find it difficult to attach the cover over the mouth piece. Followed the directions and added some water to reduce friction when reattaching. I had been tucking the bite guard in my pack to keep is clean while in transport to the field location until the day I forgot to lock it and lost half my water. No matter how careful I was and wasting time trying to keep my bite value clean and off the ground, it was impossible. This cover is perfect, functional and a valuable part of my pack.
