Looking at the picture, I thought the strap that goes across the front of the boot was a velcro strap as many other kids boots have. But it's not. It's really tight elastic that does not give, making it really difficult to put the boot on. Also the lining inside bunches up. These are going back. Too bad, because the rest of the boot seems really well-made.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Bought these for my 5 year old when a pair of cheap boots proved to be cold after only 15 minutes outside. We've had this brand before and they were great. He can put these on by himself although we had to help with the "ties" at the top. You'd really only need to tighten them if your kid was out in the snow playing, but could easily be put on at school without adult help. Our son was warm all day in these. He sloshed through slushy puddles and never got water, snow, or ice down the tops. Feet dry and warm. Worth the money.
