Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
For the longest time I had been looking for a fleece vest to replace my North Face one that needed to be retired.
I had tried Eddie Bauer but ultimately it felt to thick so now it just hangs in my closet.
Finally I broke down and went to try on a bunch at my local REI.
There were a couple that fit OK but being a bigger guy I wanted one that was a little roomy and the REI version fit that bill. Not only that but it had a nice chest pocket that no other vest had AND it was the least expensive of all the options.
REI does it again!

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
This well-priced vest in large replaces a similar REI vest purchased in the Nineties in medium. The earlier USA-made vest seemed to have denser fabric although it lacked a chest pocket.
Like an earlier reviewer, I am a size 42 but found the large Windbrake vest can accommodate additional layers such as zip turtlenecks as well as my thick neck. The length of the body is fine for those around 5'-10" but seemed a bit too long for this 5'-8" user.
A possible improvement would be to cut the vest on an asymmetrical pattern with the back longer than the front as with many softshells and hardshells on the market.

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
went into REI Denver looking for a fleece vest and was pretty set on a Patagonia until I came across the REI vest. It was really sharp looking, nicely detailed (even better than the Patagonia IMO) and obviously quite a bit less $$. I absolutely love this vest..its surprisingly warm for a fairly thin garment. I think I really got a great vest for a reasonable price. I would choose it again over any that I saw regardless of price.

This vest is fantastic. I was looking at a similar vest by North Face but it did not have the breast pocket I like. This REI vest was exactly what I've been looking for.

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
I do try things on in the store, maybe buy them there or then go on line later. So I knew it fit just as I wanted. I'm tall and it was long enough, big plus. The material holds its shape, so it looks cool. It also performs just as expected, breaks the wind and keeps you warm enough for cold mountain mornings. I carry it in the day pack when climbing 14'ers.

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
I frequently wear vests to comfortably carry keys, wallet and cell phone. This one is definitely a step up from my current fleece vest. The microfleece has an almost smooth, refined appearance and the internal "wind-break" fabric gives it some added strength to avoid the saggy pocket look. I'm not sure about the label "heavyweight" fleece, it is good quality but I've seen heavier. That said, I like the fleece weight, it's perfect for casual and winter wear.
I first ordered the size large as I'm a size 42 chest and that is the cut-off between size medium and large. As I frequently wear vests under a coat, it felt too loose but would have been the right size for a jacket. The medium was a perfect body fit. With a vest you don't have to worry about sleeve length or fitment. So, if your almost between sizes on the sizing chart, I'd recommend getting the size smaller. (the REI model is also wearing a snugger fit than a jacket might be). Good product.

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
Really like this fleece. It zips into my Marmot Jacket and keeps me exceptionally warm. The fit is definitely tailored, but still very nice. It would have been nice if they added a zipper pull on the chest pocket. Overall very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about REI Windbrake Thermal Fleece Vest - Men's:
This is a great product except for one thing. If you wear it without any sleeves, the big bold zippers right on the sides scratch the insides of your arms. I wore it for a day to make sure I wouldn't get used to it. I even tried removing the zipper pulls. My arms were very irritated by the end of the day. The pocket zippers need to be coverd with a flap or moved towards the front. The other brands did one of those. I ended up with The North Face equivalent. Except for the zippers, I prefered the REI vest.
