by Stev0hfromPerception Prodigy II Tandem w/ RudderThe third seat suppose to be used for a child is a gimick. It is close to impossible to fit three comfortably. I thought this was a bit of a marketing ploy which was unrealistic for real use.

by RonBfromGreat service, Great boatWe use our kayaks up and down the Willamette river, mostly (very calm water.) We bought this boat and the single 12' Carolina for the 3 of us. We did take them to the San Juan islands and in the surf it seemed a bit unstable, but it was also my first time in the surf, so it might just be me.
We almost bought a cheap used tandem to save money, but after using this kayak, I am VERY happy we got a more comfortable kayak. The seat could be improved a bit and I find after a few hours, I need to get out and stretch.
We got the rudder as I mostly paddle our 7-year old around and it really helps counteract our poor paddling style. It makes for a much more enjoyable trip. Also, when I paddle my girlfriend around, I am able to use the rudder to guide us in gently to get the best picture of that eagle, osprey, beaver or heron.
The boat is on the heavy side, but we have worked out lifting as a team. Although I am working on rigging up something to make the lifting easier. At 75 pounds, this boat is pushing the limits of the stock roof racks on my Rav4. We have two kayaks and we often have to strap them together in the middle so this one doesn't sway in the wind.
I did build a kayak cart out of PVC pipe and I am so glad I did. Running this boat down the dock when it is full of gear can be tiring, but with it balanced on a cart, one person can easily move it.
This boat is very stable, although if you forget your technique, you can tip this boat and end up in the Tualatin river. (Not saying who did that, but I learned my lesson!)
This boat is durable. There are some scratches we put there by running up on the shore, etc. but the don't affect the boat. It would take a lot for this boat to be seriously hurt.
