The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
This is my first Kayak and has turned out to be one of the best purchases that I have ever made. The removable child seat is great for my 3 year old daughter. It is easy to paddle, stable, tracks well and has plenty of room. Me and my family love this kayak!

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
This is my first kayak and I made a great choice. I got it to take on a small man made lake in northern NJ. I go out with my two sons, 6 and 9 yrs old. We all squeeze in (the two boys in the front, me in the back) and it's so easy. They're pointing at this, laughing at that and all the while, this kayak isn't budging. We can't flip it. Sturdy and safe. We go out for about an hour and change each time and it's not a strain. Tracks and turns with ease.
I took it out to a pretty big river and it was just like the lake. The wind picked up and the current was moving, but all along, I never felt like I was going over. This kayak has a great design that won't disappoint.
I can lift it alone to the top of a Subaru Outback with a Thule Hulliport rack without too much trouble. With 2 adults, it would be a lot easier, of course.
All in all, a well rounded kayak that you'll enjoy from the first time out.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
My husband and I have used this kayak about 5 times so far on a local lake and we love it! Because it's on the heavy side, we bought a fancy Thule roof rack system for it that has rollers to help guide the kayak on and off the rack. This makes it pretty easy to transport. We are looking forward to trying the kayak with our granddaughter or dog soon.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
I bought this boat online without seeing it first. I liked the optional 3rd childseat that was included. Unfortunately, when I got it home, I couldn't find the actual childseat. I called REI and they sent a Harmony childseat (Harmony, Perception, and Wilderness Systems are all owned/operated by same parent company.). I'm not crazy about the childseat--it just sits on the floor of the kayak, it's not at all connected or attached to the boat. I can't imagine it being comfortable for the child.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
First kayak, bought because I didn't really want a canoe for my wife, son and I to get out on the water with. Small enough to be carried by me but pretty good fit for the three of us. Have used it in the bay in Jersey, cross motor boat wakes and strong winds, tracted well and stayed dry for the most part. Once you get the seats adjusted it's very comfortable - IMHO.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
Being new to kayaking and needing a tandem to include my wife on some outings, the customer service rep recommended this model. It has proven to be exactly what we needed. The boat tracks very well (tandem or solo) yet offers enough maneuverability to navigate slower river sections and narrow feeder creeks. It is very stable which has made entering and exiting a breeze, whether from the shallows or dock.
On open, flat water the kayak has good speed and perfect tracking. I have taken it solo through short sections of what I believe to be mild class 2 rapids without much of a problem but I had been careful to map out as straight a line as possible. Its length (and my skill level) have created a few scrapes in these weak rapids but it is a flat water design after all.
The adjustable seats and foot rests allow me to get an optimal position when taking it out solo. At least for the hour or two trips we have made, the seats have proven to be comfortable enough.
Bottom line - a great kayak for a beginner who needs a versatile boat for solo and tandem applications in flat to mild class 2 (though perhaps I should not encourage anyone to take a non-skirted kayak into any rapids - I am an untrained beginner so ask an expert).
Service and delivery comments:
Customer service rep was very knowledgeable and willing to spend the time needed. Bought the rack guides at the same time and the Thule rep actually did the install for me - now that's service.

Comments about Perception Prodigy II 14.5 Tandem Kayak:
I was looking for a boat to take one of my three children (ages 11,7,and 5) with me during short recreational trips. I settled on this boat because of the third seat so I can take two at a time. 1st trip out was a little rough because the child seat, while comfortable for my son, is a rather poor fit with side-to-side instability. I remedied this by gluing a couple of PVC-pipe guide rails on the seat bottom, now is much more stable/functional! This is my second Perception boat, and I enjoy both of them. Boat tracks fairly well on flat rivers and creeks. I haven't attempted any rapids in it due to small children passengers.
