Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Standard U-Lock:
I owned the lock for about two months. This morning I couldn't get it unlocked. The key simply wouldn't turn. I tried two other keys that came with it, tried shaking it, hitting it, finally got it turn after 45mins of struggling. REI took it back after trying some WD40 and they couldn't get it to work either. I'm definitely not buying this brand again.
And I only do causal street biking and I live in LA, so it wasn't exposed to heavy dirt or lots of rain.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Standard U-Lock:
This lock is pretty much bomb proof. I purchased it for my husband three years ago for his commuting. The both of us have ended up using it a lot over the last three years (for the first year, several times a week). And despite it's heaviness, we both think it's worth it for the added security that it provides.
(A note on the way REI has identified the lock. When we purchased it, we actually got the DT 5005 Onguard Pitbull [this is the same lock but it comes with an additional cable]. REI is calling this model the Onguard "Bulldog Standard U lock," but it actually is the "5003 Pitbull STD" [see the Onguard Website]. The Bulldog series uses u locks that are lighter and hence less bomb proof.)
The only reason why we did not rate lock with 5 stars is this: the rubber on the locking mechanism that connects the two ends of the "U" has become incredibly sticky--like the sticky residue that some price tags leave behind. During the first year, the rubber surface never did this, but over time it has. We don't think it was the sunlight that caused the rubber to "melt" and then get sticky; the main cause seems to be transporting it in a milk-type crate on the back of the bike. In regular use (i.e. the lock sitting in the back of the crate and occasionally bouncing around when going over bumps, etc.), the plastic on this crate (which is not that sharp at all) seems to have scratched this part of the lock's rubber, which in turn has caused it to be excessively sticky. Now every particle of dust, dirt, hair, and fuzz seems to stick to it.
The rubber coating on the tubing on the "U" part of the lock is still fine and just like new after three years. But the stickiness on the locking mechanism is just kind of annoying; it feels like someone rubbed jelly or maple syrup all over it and left it out to dry.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Standard U-Lock:
I got this lock for my 48cm road bike. I returned it the next day because there was literally nowhere on the frame I could mount it - it either was in the way of something (pedals or the derailleur) or just didn't fit. It measures 9", I returned it for a 7" lock and that fits perfectly.
