Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
I got this for a bike I take between a fairly rural college campus and the city. At college, this lock is great for simply providing basic security and locking my wheel to my frame, preventing some drunk student from riding it away. Sure, I could do that with a cable lock, too, but this is just much easier, especially during the winter, when cables get very stiff. In higher-crime areas, it seems to be just the perfect size (using the Sheldon Brown lock strategy [@]). It also is small enough that I can mount it easily to the frame and still have plenty of room for a bottle cage. The mount is my only gripe: it was very difficult to get the lock in and out below freezing temperatures, and the tab broke off after about a week. I also learned the hard way the importance of getting everything TIGHT, because the lock will slide around very easily.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
I use this to lock a recumbent with a 2" diameter frame. Still, it fits the bike and the usual 2" diameter bike rack. It weighs about 1 lb 12 oz, which is nice for a U-lock. Small, but just as strong as the high priced heavy stuff.
The operation of the lock requires that the hasp is completely seated before the key will turn easily. I suspect that the jamming some have experienced my be due to impatient forcing of the key when hasp still has tension on the mechanism. If the key does not turn easily, push the hasp in--then it works fine.

Bought for my son. Lasted 2 months and then the lock mechanism broke inside the cylinder and we were unable to get a key in it. Get a Kryptonite!

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
This lock and a cable are used in conjunction to secure my bike. It's small size is both a pro and con. Easy to carry on my bike rack, but does not fit bulkier bike racks or parking meters with wider posts.
I don''t use the mount, so can't comment on it. You have to take care that the u-portion is fully inserted into the lock portion for the mechanism to engage properly. Sometimes the yellow rubber pieces rotate and block the holes for the u-portion.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
This is a great lock. It's a serious heavy duty U-lock but it's small enough that it's easy to have on you whenever you need it. It has the same key design and lock cylinder placment as the top of the line Kryptonite series, for 1/3 the price. I've had mine for about 4 years, never had a problem with the mechanism jamming. (And while I live in CA now, 3 of those years were in Missouri, which has some of the worst weather in the country) I can't comment on the clip design, I never use them (I don't like the possibility of maring my frame's paint) I always either have it in my bag, or slipped through my belt.
One thing to realize is that with its small shackle you need to be selective in your choice of anchor. Parking meters work great, but some of the larger 'art-installation' bike racks are too big. For me it's an easy trade off, and it's never been a big deal.
Everyone should have a U-lock. Cables are fine for keeping your wheels or seat safe, but not as your main lock. If you're looking for one that does the job at a reasonable price, you can't do much better.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
I have had a great many problems with this lock. First the plastic frame mounting bracket broke when I was riding over some rough pavement. Now, after weeks of struggling, the locking mechanism has failed completely and I can't turn the key in the lock more than halfway. Fortunately it wasn't locked up when it stopped working, so my bike is still available to me. I tried silicone spray and petroleum based lubricants both and the problem persists.

Comments about OnGuard Bulldog Mini U-Lock:
I had this lock for about two weeks before it started to give me problems. The third week I was hammering the key in. Now, I don't use the key and just try and make the bike looked locked. I don't like this though because I don't want someone to take notice and steal my bike. I'll look into other reviews and pick another lock. I really don't like seeing other people with basic [@] locks having no problems.

Its works good enough. The yellow plastic part will sometimes get in the way of u-bar and can be a pain if you are in a hurry. Used mine going on 3 years with little problems.
