Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 140 Tandem Kayak:
My experience -
I fisrt started using kayaks back in 1978 when I lived in the state of Michigan with its 11,000 lakes and almost endless shore line.
Design -
When looking at the design of this kayak, I could tell it was not made for white water. The near flat bottom is handy for clearing rocks and logs in shallow water, as long as you don't have a heavy load. With a heavier load the kayak due to its design sits low in the water.
Soloing I had no problems in choppy water on a windy day and with the added wake of small motor boats. The Santee 140t handled well and I never felt I wasn't in control.
How mostly used -
I use this mostly for recreational activities. Out with my kids or wife on the lake or river.
I also use it for fishing and photography, usually with another photographer. The Santee 140t never felt unstable with both of us using long lenses leaning back and forth tracking birds in flight. We both got some excellent Osprey and great blue heron shots.
Moves and handles -
The Santee 140t moves effortlessly through the water with one paddler or two. Even one paddler with two in the kayak. It is a pretty quick boat that is easy to maneuver.
Comfort -
The seats are adjustable and even comfortable for a 6-3 248 lb guy like me. My only negatives with this kayak was the seat adjustments. The rear seat doesn't move back or up at all. The front seat does adjust, but you have to unscrew the four mounting bolts to move the seat. The bolts do have nice knobs on them. But you really have to have the kayak out of the water to adjust the seat. The Santee 140t is around 31 inches wide which helps make it very stable and gives you enough room to put plenty of gear in it.
The Santee 140t only weighs 52 lbs which is about the same weight of my friends high end single. It is pretty easy for me (52 years old) to load and unload by myself.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 140 Tandem Kayak:
I have been using kayaks since 1978 when I lived in Michigan with its 11,000 lakes.
I use my Santee 140t mostly for recreational activities. Time with the kids or my wife.
It works well and easy with one or two in it.
It is very stable, which is very important as I do wildlife photography with another photographer from time to time. We never once have felt uneasy when shooting birds in flight. The Santee 140t feels very stable even when we are leaning with our very long lenses trying to capture birds in flight.
This Kayak isn't made for white water. Though I have used it in choppy water and with waves from smaller motorized boats. It handled very well and feels stable.
The seats are very comfortable and even adjust for a taller person.
The only thing I wish they would improve is the seat adjustement. You have to take the four mounting screws out. Even though they do have handles on them that are easy to turn. It just takes time unscrewing and then adjusting the seat and then once again screwing them back in. Other than that my friend, family and I have no complaints on this wonderful easy to use kayak.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 140 Tandem Kayak:
I was looking for a tandem I could carry by myself- the 60 lbs Santee 140T is the only tandem I could find close to that weight. There are not many reviews of this craft and the few I found were written by novices after their first experience.
THe Santee 140T is exactly as described on the Hurricane Watercraft website- a light boat with good tracking and stability for flat water. With 2 adult males (400lbs) on an estuary it handled well but I noticed ~ 3 inches between the water line and top of the gunnels. I purchased a Seal T400 spray skirt and with ~300 lbs of load in a 10 knot breeze with ~ 8" wind-driven chop, the water was freely coming into the cockpit- without the spray skirt, the kayak would have sunk on a 400 yard sprint between islands in Maine. The spray skirt is difficult to put on, it is difficult to enter the boat with the skirt on and putting on the skirt while afloat would be impossible.
This boat is for ponds only where the water conditions will not change dramatically and one will be able to beach the craft within 100 yards until those conditions change.
Most manufacturers of recreational kayaks state it is designed for flat water but my experience is they can handle small waves and moderate breezes- not this boat.
