Four words: boot heels work better. Enough said.

Comments about Sea to Summit Nylon Pocket Trowel:
Nice idea but the nylon does not do the trick in soil you would actually encounter in the back country. I ended up using the spike of a tomahawk to break up the soil and then use this product to scoop out the chopped soil. I upgraded to the metal version and it has made the difference.

Comments about Sea to Summit Nylon Pocket Trowel:
I agree with other reviewers that this trowel is poorly designed. It looks flashy in the store and the concept sounds good, but it falls apart in the backcountry. The business end doesn't cut through anything but snow and soft sand, and the button on mine broke on day one. There are much lighter, cost effective, recycled nalgene trowels out there that will do the job and last forever.

Comments about Sea to Summit Nylon Pocket Trowel:
Every time I take my daughter camping, I try to teach her about the "leave no trace" concept. I bought this product to go along with that on a 5 day backwoods Vermont camping trip. Great idea...not a good material. It's Nylon. It isn't going to do the trick when there are small roots and/or packed ground. They built it sturdy enough to dig with, but it becomes extremely ineffective due to the material quickly. Since coming back, I have purchased their metal version. It is the exact same concept, but made with the right materials and I am very optimistic. :-)

Comments about Sea to Summit Nylon Pocket Trowel:
I like the size and price of this trowel. Unfortunately, it didn't last through its first trip. The blunt end of this trowel makes it ineffective in hard-packed soil or amongst tree roots. The textured finish and close tolerance of the handle make it hard to slide and stow in sandy conditions. On top of all of that, the button (which is tough to push) broke on day two. The only good use that I see is digging in snow, where it worked very well.
