Comments about Sea to Summit Flex Paddling Booties:
I am barefoot whenever possible - walking dog, hiking, chores in the yard, etc. However, there are times when shoes are required as in at work, businesses that have shoe poliece, and outside in the winter here in Alaska. Discovered these "shoes" a little over 5 years ago and they are the best alternative I have found. They provide most of the feeling of being barefoot, very flexable, no arch, and very thin rubber and neoprene sole so that you can feel what you are stepping on. Only cons are that they are a little warm indoors while at work and very cold when walking on snow or ice while traveling from car to a building. They aslo wear rather quickly - the slight bumpy texture on the sole lasts about 4 - 5 months and they get holes in the sole by about month 8 or 9 with daily wear at work. I have a job where I walk about 4 - 5 miles per day indoors, on roof, in car park, through ducts, on ladders (much safer that hard soled shoes here as you can feel where your feet are on the rungs of the ladder) and other places performing maintenance tasks.
I no longer get home at end of workday with foot, leg, knee, and back pain from wearing inlfexable and hard soled shoes with arches in them. Also on my job, I have reduced problems with slipping, missing a rung on a ladder, etc as these shoes allow me to feel what I am stepping on almost as well as if barefoot.
Tried the shoes with the toes about 6 years ago and found that they have several problems. They dont look like shoes and cannot wear with sox so cannot wear at work, they are very uncomftorable with each toe seperated as with golves, they are not as flexable as these, they are less long lasting than these, and they are very expensive compaired to these.
