These are decent but I am concerned about the straight cut at the bottom that has a high clearance. I mean, look at the picture--who wears their pants that high?! Another problem is they are completely inaccurate RE the size measurements. Watch out for the top circumference which they list in the description. Apparently, some idiot laid them on a table and measured. What they neglected to do was account for the Velcro closure so you would need to subtract 2 full inches from what they say to determine if this would fit around your leg. I got the mediums and based on my calculations, I would need an extra large but I'm going to return these as I have concerns about the lack of ankle coverage.

I own similar gaiters from other manufacturers, all in XL size and all fit perfectly. The XL size in Otto gaiters is too small to be used even on a bear leg.

Initially, I saw the price less than $17 and thought oh what a great deal…but once I received the gaiters they are way too large (long).

I purchased 2 pair size medium for my son and wife after taking their measurements and using the product specs page on the REI site as a guide. Maybe they use to be available in a Small with the same design but the mediums are huge.

I can only state the mediums would be slightly big for me if I tried to use them for myself. To put that into any type of perspective for someone interested in this product or similar products, I am 6'1", 215lbs and wear a size 13 boot and have a 34 inch waist.

In addition, not just the length of the gaiters is big(long) but if you are wearing shorts and not pants many I think are going to find that they cannot get the top cinch strap snug enough where the plastic clip is supposed to secure the gaiter down. If you can find them in a store try them first, they may work for you but I have now returned the one's initially purchased.

I exchanged them at REI once I could get hands on for Item 769568 Mountain Hardware Nutshell High Gaiters. Thank you REI.

I found the sizing on the nutshell gaiters to be more realistic, the top cinch strap worked better for us and the bottom lace boot strap (going under the boot or shoe) can easily be replaced as it wears with a shoe lace or Para cord replacement in the field.

What also strongly influenced my final decision over available sizes to was after seeing what was available in my local REI store. I looked at REI gaiters and other brand gaiters but decided a field repair for the under boot strap would be much more of a challenge if the boot straps on other brands or the buckle failed over the Nutshell lace design so I went with item 769568.

These are a great buy; well below the price of other gaiters. I now have 3 pairs. I ordered a M & L for myself and my wife. Unfortunately, the L appeared to be the same size as the M and would not go around my calf. The L had one of the rivets on the strap popped off. I then ordered an XL which did fit me, but it also arrived with one rivet popped. They are still very serviceable, although a bit hot for here in Hawaii. They'll be good in Minnesota though.

No REI here in Hawaii, and not worth the hassle to ship them back.

Picked these up in the spring when they were a "Deal of the Day." They're a great gator for the price. They fabric is very durable and the hardware on the instep strap is quite tough as well. I wear them cinched down pretty far the the buckle is pretty scratched up, but not bent at all. The bottom portion of the gator is double thick cordura fabric and has survived many rock scrambles without damage. It does not breath well however, but that's not too big of a concern for me personally. The upper portion is thinner, but still tough, and breaths much better. You can't beat them for the price.

no frills, but work great in calf height snow in the northwest. I used these on a rainier summit trip and they help up well. They do get a bit stuffy if the weather is warm though.

I wear these gaiters both when I think I'll be bushwacking or when I'm in the snow and they protect me from thorns, rocks, ice, and debris. I wear low-cut boots (all year round), so these are a life saver! I've had the same pair for years and I think I'll have them for years to come. They are that durable!

I don't get why some gaiters are so expensive. For my activity level (no mountaineering), I can see myself using them for snowshoeing and for spring hiking when trails are still piled with snow.

I am 5'4" 115lb female so I got a pair of S/M. They reach just below my knees. They are roomy enough but not too baggy. The webbing/buckle on top is a good design to tighten up the top. The material is not thick or stiff therefore good for outings not too technical or heavy duty or for hot and humid weather condition.

I prefer to let gaiters cover my boots as much as possible for avoiding dust/dirt/debries and fast stream crossing. The underboot tie has a lot of holes to suit my preference (I cinch up to the 2nd to the last hole). Doing so, the buckle almost touches the ground. I am hoping that it won't get bend out of shape hiking in scree/talus trails.

As for long lasting, we shall see. If I don't abuse them too much and if the construction is solid enough, they should last a bit. At this price and weight, it is a good insurance against element and bugs.

I've used these for a couple trips into NCNP and Snoqulamie National Forrest. They have held up very well so far. They're pretty easy to put on and on I hardly notice them. Once you sinch down the top strap they won't need any further adjustment. They have proven to be waterproof and very durable. The bottom section isn't very breathable but I haven't had any problems with the top part. Much better than I was expecting for the price.
