Comments about Jetboil Zip Stove:
I used the Pocket Rocket and Titan kettle for years but even with the small canister it was not self contained, as mentioned by MSR. You would have to secure the lid with a wide rubber band which always slipped off in the pack. I picked up the ZIP for a couple reasons: 1. The whole unit is self contained- making it small, compact, and light 2. I think the heat indicator is a lame gimmick and honestly made me avoid a purchase in the past 3. The ZIP doesn't offer the igniter which on other models would need replacing, i thought if i always carry 2 lighters between me and my climbing partner i wouldn't have to have a igniter, and in-turn reduces the weight. 4. The smaller size cup uses less fuel to boil only the amount of water i need for either freeze dried or freezer bag meals. I do think the FLASH/PCS cup would still be worth the size and weight for one reason: It boils two meals worth of water instead of one, but i wasn't willing to deal with the LAME HEAT INDICATOR... now if they went back to the old version without the heat indicator or if i can find a used one i'll pick it up. That brings me to my next point- About the companion cups, for instance the 1.8 Liter SUMO is a nice larger cup for 1-3 ppl and could be used to boil say noodles, soups, stews, etc that normally boil over in the smaller cups, but the fuel needed to heat such a large cup would require larger canisters, perhaps additional canisters, and longer boil times(MORE FUEL SPENT). The SUMO allows for the ZIP system to stow inside for connivence and less bulk but i dont know at this time- if you could pack a larger or additional 100g canister inside the sumo,( again more canisters may be needed depending on duration of the outing). And i'd still have to deal with the heat indicator. 5.HANGING KIT!
Overall, the ZIP is great for boiling water and is the escape from the heat indicator and igniter issues but thats about it.. With the pot support you can use Jetboil's other products such as the 1.5L Group Pot, FluxRing Fry Pan - 8", or even other brand pots and pans but make sure you have a stable work surface.
The only thing that could make Jetboil stoves better would be to loose the Heat indicator- if you can't tell the water is boiling maybe you shouldb't be the one cooking, The wire knob (available on newer stove models other than the ZIP) would be nice. And the regulator on the SOL is nice but i dont need the igniter.. So build us a PCS without an igniter, with a regulator, wire knob, and ditch the Heat indicator!!
As for the coffee press- i'm not sure if it works with the ZIP's smaller cup but i also dont drink coffee, i'm almost 30 so maybe i'll find out one day soon!

Comments about Jetboil Zip Stove:
This stove is great for about 1 thing and that is boiling water (Does it in under 2 minutes). Forget about cooking in it though. Anytime I tried to cook something in it, it would just boil over because it temperature control is horrible. It basically has one setting and the is HOT. After about 2 months of pretty heavy use the regulator broke, so I took my loss and just bought a MSR.

I simply use it to heat water for freeze-dried meals. Once I used it to heat water for a shave, it worked wonderfully. The adjustment valve has to be tweeked after some use.

Comments about Jetboil Zip Stove:
This is a great stove... easy, fast, and the canister fits inside the pot for transport when there is a canister attached. Best part, there is a french press attachment for it which is awesome. Boil water fast for the backpacking food, then boil some water, add freshly ground beans, and make some great java.
I love gadgets that improve the quality of my outdoors experience... and in a pinch, this stove was nice to have when I was without a stove for a brief time, still got the water boiled and had my coffee.
it's a convenient, sturdy, fairly indestructible little stove.

Comments about Jetboil Zip Stove:
This is a great little cooking system. It boils water almost as fast as a microwave. We used it on an overnight trip and were very satisfied.
One of the best things about the Jet Boil is that it all fits together into the cup, making a very compact, self-contained system.
The temperature is a little difficult to control... seems it's full boil or off. We didn't try cooking anything requiring low heat but I suspect it might be a problem if we did.
We also added on a Sumo cup that this entire system packs into, so we have 2 cups and can each eat straight from the bowl.
Ingenious little product.

This is a great choice! It is the smallest Jetboil, which is a big plus. That said, it gets the job done well. I have only boiled water with it (have not tried it as a stove with pots/pans). You need a match (the Zip does not have auto ignition), but it lights very easy once a match is placed within half an inch of the outside of the stove. The fact that it has no auto ignition shouldn't bother anyone since you should have matches with you anyway for emergencies or in case the auto ignition were to break.

Comments about Jetboil Zip Stove:
This stove was very easy to use, and packs up very nicely. I basically just use a stove to boil water, or cook something simple like oatmeal, or Mac& Cheese. It boils water very quickly. This stove also seems to have good fuel efficiency. The one drawback of this stove is that it is difficult to tell when the water begins to boil due to the black non-transparent lid. It is something that I can deal with though with the price difference

I got the Zip along with Scout 2.0 Fire Starter ($14.95) = ~$90. This was the setup a REI associate recommended to me as this is my first stove system.
The performance of the stove is great. Boiled water very well, packs into itself, and cup storage area holds the flint, extra matches, gas canister recycle tool, cotton balls. Kind of an awesome setup.
However a few things bothered me and made me upgrade to the Sol. The deciding factor was the ignition system (or lack of). You have to light the Zip stove with the cup off and than put it on. I found this to be inefficient and semi-accident prone (semi...because sometimes we're just a little clumsy). I turned to flame down as low as possible to minimize accidental burn, and often going to low resulting in the flame dying and having the reignite. The Zip lights easy with a match/lighter, but takes practice with a flint and a medium to high gas flow. All of these leading to inefficient gas usage. Thus, I opted for the Sol (another option is the Flash, a 1L system).
I also had a very hard time fitting everything into cup and shutting the lid all the way. The measuring cup also could be easily pull off the main cup without twisting it to the release knots. But these may have been a case-to-case thing.
I absolutely recommend the Zip, but don't bother with the flint (it's good if you already have one). Otherwise, take a look at the Sol or Flash.

What can I say, It's great. You will need a way to get it started (I.E. flint and steel, lighter, matches). But I have heard that you may also need these things for the other models depending on the weather. Everything packs into its self to make an awesome cook set. I really enjoy the freeze dried foods and this works great with them. It is also great for making coffee (you'll also need coffee press, and just use coffee that is not too fine). Overall, I love it and show it to everyone I know or run into.
