- Light and airy nylon mesh uppers with synthetic leather overlays offer excellent flexibility and ventilation while keeping weight low
- Nylon linings wick moisture off your feet and dry quickly to keep feet comfortable
- Compression-molded EVA midsoles are lightweight and offer great response
- Hard EVA plates protect against stone bruising by dispersing point pressure; external thermoplastic urethane shanks provide torsional stability

these are great trail running shoes that I also use for occasional road running. I've run distances upto 50k on trail with these and they are by far the best trail shoes I've had. they are lightweight, responsive and strike a fine balance between protecting your feet and letting you feel the terrain. I highly recommend them for someone who is looking for a minimalist shoe yet needs some protection.

I've been experimenting with a variety of shoes for trail running (about 6-8 miles 4-5 days a week) and these are simply the best by far that I've found. Two simple reasons: ultra-light weight and decent cushioning. I love the lightweight of minimalist shoes but I run on rocky surfaces and I just find that a bit of cushioning makes all the difference in the world. The problem is that most other trail runners are at least 50% heavier than these and that kind of weight really doesn't feel good on my feet. I'm writing this review largely because I feel like I want to do everything I can to encourage Montrail to keep this shoe in production and for others to take a shot at similar designs.

Wore these in the World Master's Cross Country Championships. Very nice. Fairly light weight, sufficient cushion, good underfoot protection. A little skimpy for training on gnarly, highly technical trails. Great on moderately technical trails and ANY trail on race day. Just love 'em on tempo runs and roller coaster hills. Not a shoe for big, heavy runners or beginners.

I was extremely happy with the comfort these shoes provide. I use these shoes at work, which is a lot of walking/hiking on mixed path. I also used them for some trail running. The disappointment came after 3 months of heavy use. I wore through the tred on the balls of my feet like it wasn't even there. Wasn't pleased for the money I dropped on the shoes.

I lean minimal and wanted a shoe with a firmer feel for Bear Mountain in a few weeks. I ran them on a wet day and I swear they shrank. My big toes kept hitting the front. I tried time at a 100 miler and they drove pain into my big toe and had to switch out.

I have been a distance and cross country runner since high school in the late 60's early 70's, just when "real" running shoes first became available. I have been looking for a lightweight, "minimalist" trail running shoe, saw these in the store, and based on experience and personal preference bought these on the spot, having never heard of them before. It was only after I bought them that I started looking at reviews. I agree with the other reviews here, and would add that the shoes are very light and have excellent ventilation, so they will do nothing to keep your feet dry (which is fine with me). Because they are so light but sturdy, I believe they will be perfect camp shoes for backpacking, where I will be using them for day hiking, scrambling around, and splashing in the water fishing in backcountry lakes and streams. As well as running!
