Comments about Novara Metro Gel Double Bike Shorts - Men's:
I do really love these shorts. I have had them for about a year now.
Yes, the gel padding is kinda thick and unlike any other cycling short I have worn before. It felt heavy and diaper-ish at first, but in the saddle it is fine. I primarily wear them for commuting, so I cannot comment on how they are for longer rides (longer than 40 min).
I haven't taken them on the dirt, but they'd be fine for any single track; especially if you are on a hard tail and want a little extra cushion.
I love that these shorts are soft-shell and a little water resistant for damp days. But I think the shorts are pretty stylish for bike shorts (at least the grey; haven't seen the black in person). They are a good balance of loose fitting, but not too baggy (like some MTB shorts).
I am 5'6" with a 34" waist (30" inseam for pants) and have a size large. The length is a little longer in the knee than I prefer, but the waist is fine. I actually just ordered these in size medium (haven't tried them on yet), maybe they will fit me better? I am right on the cusp of the M/L designation.
Overall, very happy with these shorts.

Comments about Novara Metro Gel Double Bike Shorts - Men's:
I have been riding in these shorts for about 6 months now and have been very pleased with them. I ride a hardtail and having the extra padding is a big plus although they do tend to feel a little strange when walking around. I am 5'9" with 32" waist and I am wearing the mediums, just baggy enough in the right spots but still a good fit for riding.

Comments about Novara Metro Gel Double Bike Shorts - Men's:
These are insanely small, I wear a 32 and the Mediums were so tight that I could barely pull them up past my knees.
Now REI is going to start making me have body image issues, thanks!

I guess these short look great but I found the fit to be absolutely shocking. The RISE (length between the top and crutch is massive)therefore would create chafing. I guess it must be made for the america Home Boys. There is a fixed inner brief and chamos which feels like a large nappy hanging off your bum when you move. It is not a good fit. The the main front button un-does when the slightest pressure is applied, (it won't stayed secured)[...]. I am very disappointed this this garmont.

These shorts were in the mailbox when I got home from work, so I threw them on and hit the local pub crawl. At first they felt oddly tight, but after a few minutes dodging cars, they stretched out and got really comfy. Frakkin' awesome gel chamois, and plenty of pockets that nothing falls out of. After 15 miles and 5 beers, I'm impressed.

Comments about Novara Metro Gel Double Bike Shorts - Men's:
This is a very lightweight, breathable MTB shorts for the one's who will not otherwise settle with the really tight cycling pants. the cushioning is just right for me; not too bulky and not too thin (and i weigh 195 lbs). I have worn them during hail and rain, and also during a warm 75+ weather, and so far it has been taking the beating like a champ. It doesn't get too wet from sweating/rain, but if you're sweating in a public place your butt will leave an outline on the seat. FYI

Comments about Novara Metro Gel Double Bike Shorts - Men's:
I was looking for a pair of shorts for my 25mi round-trip commute that wouldn't force my co-workers to be subjected to the form-fitting snugness of my roadie shorts once I got to the office. I use my road bike to commute, and the seat is fairly small/aggressive, so I wanted something with a chamois built in. These shorts seemed to fit the bill, and they haven't disappointed. They seem breathable/comfortable on my daily commute in 90+ deg heat, and they're always dry by the end of the workday when I go put them back on for the ride home.I'm 6'4" with a 32" waist, and the medium fits well; maybe slightly on the snug side, but well well enough once they're on as to not cause bunching or chafing. (I think the other reviewer that claimed not to be able to get the shorts over their knees may have gotten a small pair mislabeled as med).My only complaint is that after one wash, some of the threads on the zipper seam have started to fray and hang loose. I hope it's not a sign of things to come, but so far after multiple wearings everything else seems to be holding up well.I do like these shorts, [...]
