The women's Novara Carema Gel cycling skort hides technical bike shorts under a flattering skirt. This skort is a nice alternative to traditional bike shorts!
- 4-way stretch polyester/spandex blend skirt has a wrap-around design and deep side slits offering a full range of motion
- Underneath the skirt, the moisture-wicking, quick-drying shorts use 4-way stretch fabric and 8-panel construction to support hard-working muscles
- Liner shorts contain 80% nylon content and resist pilling and snagging
- Women-specific, Novara Gel chamois conforms to body contours; a top layer of breathable foam and a bottom layer of thin, resilient foam enhances comfort on the bike
- Full coverage Novara Gel chamois features a perforated gel pad to cushion while also breathing; microfiber cover wicks moisture away

I bought these shorts because of the comfortable, non-binding, anti-muffin top waistband. I was quite sad when I found the chamois to be loose and bunchy. Not comortable after all. Fix the funny chamois, and I'd be all over these shorts.

I use this skirt for long bike rides, both on and off road and absolutely love it. The padding is super comfortable, not bunchy at all. The skort is super cute and comfortable and has a great waistband. I would highly recommend this skort. In fact, I'd love one with long tights for cool weather riding in Alaska.

I love it so much that I'm getting another one. I wish it came in different colors, I'd buy all of it.. I just did a 62 mile ride and this skort is very comfortable on the bike. I totally rocked my bike outfit. I had other women complement me on my outfit. Even though I wasn't the fastest on the race, I looked and felt great!

Surprised by the negative reviews on the padding. I LOVE this skort so much I'm about to buy two more for BRAG! The comfort waist band is perfect. The gel pad is the greatest thing ever. Thought the extra layer of fabric would to too hot, but it's actually cooler than standard bike shorts. One small pocket on the left leg big enough for credit card. All this and feminine, too! Could use another pocket on the right leg and perhaps a small exterior pocket on the low back area.

First off, this sizing is off. I am pretty small built, yes, but I can usually wear a SMALL in bottoms and get away with the legs not sliding off, but not with this pair however. In spite of the silicone non-slip elastic at the legs of the inner short, its so loose that it slip slides away - bothersome. The waist has a "v" inset notch, nice touch but again really big and so it "hangs" around my waist since its far from snug. Then the padding... its so thick and bulky its like walking around with a cushion, thank god for the skirt over it. Its so bulky that its uncomfortable to walk when you are not riding. REI really needs to go back to the drawing board with this one. Its a good design, just poor execution. I'll still wear it because I like the skirt-y look better than the shorts. The fabric is also really thick and heavy. FYI, I am 5'6" 110# and small framed, but athletic built.

I love the texture of this fabric, however the elastic in the waist band folds over on itself...like it's too wide. It becomes uncomfortable not to mention unsightly. I'd like to see this issue addressed in your future products. I'd buy another if this weren't such a discomfort.

I really like this skirt. It is pretty heavy on the padding but I like that, given that I bought it for a multi-day ride. I will say that it runs a little large. My measurements would put me in the low end of the XL category on the sizing chart, but the shorts were too loose--and I have big thighs. I exchanged it today for a L which fits much better.
My only minor con is that I wish the slits at the sides of the skirt were not so wide--you can see the shorts on the sides (pretty true to the pictures here). I tried on other bike skorts at REI with slits on the sides that were much closer together and really hid the shorts, which I liked, but I liked the padding in this one better.

Absolutely love the style of the skirt and shorts. The only negatives are the lack of a pocket, and the padding is way too thick and not breathable. It actually puts more pressure on the tender parts to be sitting on so much padding. I'm removing the pad entirely and using this for shorter rides.

I planned on this skort for spin class and outdoor cycling, but just trying it on, I can tell that the chamois is so loose, there will be major chafe and on top of that, I feel like I am wearing a diaper. Plus, not one pocket? Not even a key pocket? NOT HAPPY that I used my one 20% off on this item. It's going back.

At the time of this review the new Novara Carema Gel Skort had not yet been available for sale. Perhaps you have an older version of the Novara Carema Skort or Novara Carema Short?
The product pictured, the Novara Carema Gel Skort along with the Novara Carema Gel Skort have both been updated for 2011 with a new chamois pad which I hope you will like better. This pad is more breathable than the older pad and has three separate sections of cushioning gel which gives it a better shape. It got rave reviews from our field testers. We’ve retained the comfort yoga-type waistband which is one of the most popular features.
