Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
This bag is big, very big. So big in fact, after I got home, loaded my work gear into it, I realized it was overkill for what I needed. If the bag's design was slightly smaller in height, I would have kept it. I'm using a 13" laptop but even with notebooks, power cords, water bottle, etc loaded there's about 4" of space at the top of the bag. I suppose I could cram a jacket or something there but the space really seem wasted.
I ended up going with the REI Transit Bag, which is working out a lot better.
If a person had a larger laptop and a lot more stuff, this bag might be fine but the bag's height still seems a bit excessive (at least compared to Timbuktu, REI's Transit, other laptop bags).

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
Used daily for work with a macbook and associated gear. I travel 75k miles a year so it will get a workout.
Great-workmanship, waterproof external zipper for computer compartment
Not great-plain black would be preferable

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
I needed a good weather-resistant bag to hold a 15" Macbook Pro, several notebooks/magazines/small books, my lunch, headphones, pens etc. etc. Everything that I need to bring to/from work or carry with me as I tend to work outside of the office a lot.
This bag is great, best messenger shoulder bag I've ever owned. I replaced my Mountain Hardwear backpack with this, it blends in better in downtown and in a professional setting. I'm a big guy (6'3) and found some bags to have a short strap, but this bag's strap is VERY long, which is nice.
The top flag has edges at the corners that hug and cover the opening to prevent rain/snow from getting inside. The back zipper is weather sealed and allows access to your laptop/notebooks/inner department without undoing the main flap.
One downside is the clips that hold the flap down are VERY VERY stiff. Hard to open in the cold when your fingers are numb and frozen. Other than that, GREAT bag. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
Excellent bag. I disagree with the other dude who said the bag is too big. I'm a reporter, and I carry around a laptop, its plug, a bunch of notepads and documents, and I found it perfectly sized. The first bag I bought was a brand that rhymes with [@], but I found the strap way too short, to the point where I couldn't sling it across my chest comfortably (I'm 6'2"). This one is a perfect length, and has outer pockets, which I love. Plus the handle is more padded and located in a better position (centered on top) than the Shimtuck, which had a stupid tiny handle centered on the back of the bag. Lame.Everything I need. Good stuff. I'd recommend it for sure. Much more so than the other overpriced bag brand. Props to REI.

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
I bought this for someone that was 5 feet tall and weighs less than 100 lbs. It is big but lightweight and holds the computer great. I really like the padding. It is easy for your bag to get bumped and I feel like this bag has great protection without being bulky. Plenty of compartments and she likes being able to get the computer out of the back. We were just not crazy about the color. The green was very earthy and fine but would have prefered black.

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
I shopped around for quite a while to find this bag and it beat out other bags available at the time. I like all the compartments for tech gear. The only drawback is that it is a little wide. Straps at the bottom to cinch in the bulk would be ideal. I'd also buy a thinner designed bag. But I did get this one and fits my purposes perfectly.

Comments about REI Quantum Messenger Bag:
Lots of thought went into this bag's design. The laptop compartment has a separate flap where you can store a mousepad or in my case, a Cool Pad. The laptop compartment is large enough to accommodate my 15.4" MacBook Pro. The side compartment easily takes the AC power supply. The main compartment is surprisingly cavernous. Both compartments have an abundance of pockets to organize all of your stuff.
All in all, I'm quite impressed with this bag. I purchased it with some trepidation because I didn't expect it to measure up to my old bag but so far, it has! I've only had it a week but I think that it feels quite well made and I expect it to hold up!
