Comments about Brooks Cascadia 6 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I use Cascadias for 50-60 miles of trail running per week on all types of terrain, including very technical trails, mud, snow, and Class 3 scrambling when needed. Races include 50Ks, 50 M, and 100M trail runs. I always use orthotics.
As I put on my new Cascadia 6s for the first time(my 17th pair of Cascadias), I wondered about the new model - what has been changed that no longer makes it the only shoe I would wear on the trails. Surprisingly, I found that the 6s are better than the previous models. Not only have the pronation control design, underfoot protection plate, toe guard, all-terrain tread, etc been retained, but a small one inch long elastic strap has been added for the laces on top of the foot. During a 50K race last weekend with two steep downhills several miles long and over 13,000 feet of elevation change, not once did my toes reach the end of the shoe, there was plenty of room in the toe box, and there was no pain from the laces on the top of the foot (a first!). The shoes had only six miles on them, and were incredibly comfortable for the entire run. I know runners who do 50 mile races with Cascadias straight out of the box, with no problems. They are that good, and now they are better.
Two minor issues. One, the open mesh lets in a lot of dirt on dusty or sandy trails. Adding a few layers of waterproofing helps. Two - the colors chosen by Brooks are....interesting. As the shoes get dirty anyway, who cares?
Again, the best shoe I have ever used on the trails (many other runners using Cascadias at the races apparently agree), and I will not try or use anything else if Brooks stays with the present concept and design.

Comments about Brooks Cascadia 6 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I love this shoe and I have owned quite a few running shoes over the past 30 years and have rarely raved about any of them. But, and I think this is important, the grey/blue colored Cascadia 6 that REI sells fits differently from the red colored Cascadia 6 I bought at the local running store. The red model was narrower and fit snugger, just perfect like a glove. I went to try on the same size in grey/blue at REI to get another pair in a different color and felt like I was swimming in it. I immediately tried another size12 (my size) in blue and it too seemed larger or at least wider.
So I was still not sure if that was some kind of anomaly, but shortly thereafter my friend, at my urging, bought a pair of Cascadias, (in the grey/blue color) and reported he did not like them. We are the same size so we swapped pairs one weekend and I unfortunately went on a 3 hour trail run/hike and was so miserable in the blue pair that I ended up losing a toe nail and also fell a couple of times because the traction is pathetic once one's foot is not snugly in the Cascadia foot bed. Conversely, my friend on a completely different run that same weekend, loved my red Cascadia 6 shoes, so if you buy a pair make sure this shoe fits snug and if it does it is awesome for traction and control and your foot stays in place without moving much at all. And look or ask REI to order the red ones to do a comparison.
Another thing, generally I should run in an orthotic, but this shoe is not meant for that and if you use one it totally changes the feel of the shoe. So try the red color, and make sure it is pretty snug, not tight, forget the orthotic or superfeet and then you are set for an awesome trail running experience. Perhaps REI should talk with Brooks and see if there was a discrepancy between the two color models, or maybe it is just a matter of sizing down a 1/2 size in the blue model. I mention this because when I read other buyers descriptions and reviews I could immediately tell who had a good fit experience and who did not. And getting the right fit in this shoe is the difference between heaven and hell.

The shoe is very comfortable but lacks the sure footed feel i require while running. If you take away the traction this is nothing more than a road shoe adapted for the dirt.

Comments about Brooks Cascadia 6 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I was looking for a lightweight trail running shoe for some lightweight/UL backpacking. I tried this on and it felt really good.
I've been wearing these around for about a month now breaking them in and they are super comfortable.
I had also purchased some gel inserts, but found that the insert that comes with the shoe was much more comfortable than the gel ones, so I returned the inserts and am going with the stock ones.

Comments about Brooks Cascadia 6 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
I wanted to like these, ran a couple of highly technical trail marathons in them, and the problem is that they don't provide any more stability than my road running shoes (less, even) and they provide a lot less cushion. I run roads in Nike Structure Triax, and these are heavier than those, but feel thinner on the bottom (I feel every rock). That might be a good thing if the shoe gave more control in response to those rocks, but it doesn't My foot slid around a lot in the toebox, and even tightening it to the point that it was puckered down and rubbing on my toes didn't keep my feet from sliding. A reviewer on Brooks' site compared the feeling to wearing a shoe with a spandex upper, and that's about right.
The traction is decent enough, but you can't do much with it if your foot slips all over in the shoe. Having completed two very difficult, hilly trail marathons in these (one with 8300+ feet of climb and descent) I can't recommend for technical trails. Maybe they're OK for smooth cross-country courses or relatively rock-free trails, but unfortunately, they don't deliver for what I consider trail running.

I love these shoes! I wasn't so sure about them but after trying them on I knew I couldn't go with anything else. The lace system is great. Although they do loosen as I run so I have learned to tie them overly tight and after the first few hundred yards the laces are perfect. I also love the way the area under the ball of my foot feels rockered. I've never had a pair of trail runners that felt that way. So grippy too. Even running down a concrete path last night I could feel and hear the back of the shoe gripping the ground with each step.

I use these shoes to run, mostly on the road. I have found them to be incredibly comfortable and supportive. I LOVE the way they hug my feet and feel so cushy and not at all tight. I've read that people don't like the colors on the shoe, but I think they look pretty snazzy and go well with most anything. I plan to purchase another pair of these so when the pair I have now wears out (hopefully a long time), I will have another pair to slip into. I have not worn a more comfortable shoe for running. I have run a marathon, many halfs, and lots of smaller distance runs.

Comments about Brooks Cascadia 6 Trail-Running Shoes - Men's:
Have worn these shoes for 6 months now and I was a bit concerned about durability due to how light they are. My fears were totally unfounded they have held up exceptionally well. In fact I cant find a single torn stitch or place that looks to be worn after 6 months of daily use.
The color is a bit bright, but it fades and is very tolerable after some use. I would not recommend these shoes for use in wet weather unless you like wet feet. Probably not a mud season shoe.
On long hikes, I can feel the weight difference between these shoes and another pair that I own.
Very happy with these shoes and I will be buying another pair if these ever wear out. Hopefully by then, they will have toned down the bright blue color :)

Great general purpose trail shoe. Does a more competent job off-trail than most trail runners. Somehow manages to be both lightweight and cushy.
trailwhisperer28 - that's precisely what a trail running running shoe is! Sounds to me that you're looking for a hiking boot more than a trail running shoe...

I don't like a too stiff shoe but still like to have the feeling of stability, this shoe has for me the right balance. Shoe is not waterproof but easy to dry after the run.
