I purchased this for my biking trip through Germany. I wanted something lightweight but covered farther down than just my hips and also kept rain out of my eyes when biking. This coat far exceeded my expectations. Once again, REI did not disappoint.

I loved this jacket for the first month I had it. Sure, it's not very breathable, but as long as I wore a long sleeve shirt, it was quite comfortable. (Feels very sticky against skin, so I couldn't stand wearing it with shirt sleeves.) Water would just bead up and run right off.

After about a month, however, water started soaking in rather than running off. My sweatshirt I wore underneath would end up damp, especially around the elbow crease. Not a ton of water got in, but the point of a raincoat is that I want the rain to stay out. The jacket has not been washed or exposed to any weird conditions. I'm taking it back.

This coat fulfills all my requirements of attractive, packable, waterproof rainwear equally good for a long-weekend trip to Europe as for a (careful) weekend-warrior camper, at a reasonable price. The fit is trim but roomy enough for a sleek insulating layer, making it useful over three seasons. (I'm 5'1", 125 lbs., borderline Small/Medium, which always makes it a challenge choosing size: Small runs snug, but I swim in a Medium.) Pockets are well placed and sizeable, and the stylish waist gathers provide shape as well as offer a pinch extra room as necessary. The large, adjustable, removable hood provides excellent coverage when weather demands, yet can be jettisoned when a more tailored, stylish look is desired.
