Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

The first thing I noticed about the i-Go is that it weighs a ton. There are lots of quick releases that allow it to be taken apart without tools, but some areas might have benefitted from a different connector. It is a hassle to have to completely take out the quick release to fold it for putting in the van, or to attach and remove it from my bike.
I have some safety worries as well. At lower speeds, like starting from a stop in traffic, there is a lot of shimmy. I was very worried about my ability to control my bike when this happened. I will not ride this in a heavy traffic area again. It was fine when we got on the old rail line trail, most of the time.

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

So I've waited until we had some good rides on the Weehoo before submitting a review and we finally have. I bought the Weehoo after deciding the Cougar Chariot 2 trailer had run it's course for our two kids, now 3 and 6. The Weehoo allows us to ride in many different settings:

++ following my 6yo around the neighborhood or on multi-use trails, while pulling our 3yo.
++ a 25 mile organized ride with hundreds of other cyclists, where my 6yo safely took a nap since it was an early morning start. the ease of the Weehoo even had us finishing 1/2hr before we anticipated. 12mph moving avg, including a 1 mile climb up 7% grade!

++ hooked it up to a friends bike who took his 5yo for a 1st time Weehoo ride 15 miles along the Oregon Coast Bike Route (101) south from Manzanita.
++ shared it with another friend, who took his 7yo for a ride around Lopez Island. Also a first time ride and everyone reported no issues.

Take care when picking up speed on the downhills, as your kid's cadence gets higher and their excitement starts to toss the combination around a bit. I coached my 6yo on flat land rides for safety ahead of the bigger rides.

This bike has allowed us to bike as a family of 4 on many occasions around town and our kids argue over who's going to ride it. Usually the 6yo is on her own pedal bike and the 3yo gets the pull. But when the 6yo is on it, she can easily pedal us on the flats at 18-20MPH. It's surprising how well she can keep that speed and give me a nice break!

A few things to consider w/ this "non-pro" version: it's a bit of an effort to transport. I was able to take it on a 1,000 mile road trip using a Thule 599XTR Big Mouth roof mounted bike tray, with trailer arm attached. I added a bungee cord to stabilize it to the bike next to it, for peace of mind. Otherwise, it fit in the cargo area of our friends Subaru Outback just fine. It's pretty heavy, coming in 5# heavier than our Chariot trailer.

Overall, I would highly recommend this for it's versatility (it supports many ages) and ability to cruise for 3hrs+ w/ not a complaint from the passenger.

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

I took this trailer down the C&O canal towpath and GAP rail trail on a DC to PGH ride with my 8 year old. I strapped camping equipment behind the seat. It proved its worth. It was ideal for the sometimes single track of the towpath. When we hit the locks my 8 year old was able to stoke us up the small hills.

For the rolling hills of Maryland it was heavy. Not so bad on the climb up to Frostburg. For closed trail riding I don't make my kid strap in so he can jump in and out as he wants. That's nice on a 60+ mile ride when they need a bathroom break.

I would lock tight the bolts on the nylon tubes. Plus the chain went slack on the ride. It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

Our 5 year old daughter had a bike at 3 years old, but has been apprehensive and not interested. Even with training wheels, practicing was something of a chore rather than fun or self-esteem boosting. It has been getting better, but when we bought the Weehoo, it all changed! Fun, fun, fun! She loved it! It has become a family event. The first time out we rode for two hours as she didnt want to go back home. It is a bit heavy and takes some getting used to. Helps to have a kickstand on the adult bike. My mtn bike is light so it can take a bit of getting used to as you go up hills and take corners. All in all, this is going to help create family memories for years to come!

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

I am a single dad with a 30 pound 3 year old daughter. I ride a Trek hardtail 29er. We rode a cheap beach cruiser type bike with a "bolted to the bike" kid seat for about a year. When she was tall enough to complicate loading her in there I bought a Trek from my local bike store and started shopping for a trailer. I purchased a Burley Bee enclosed trailer thinking it would be best. My daughter was mildly enthused during our first and second rides with the Burley, after that her excitement tapered off. I got a flat on the Burley and after a bit of thinking I started shopping for single wheel solutions. Enter the Weehoo.

I cannot stress enough how much my kid loves this thing. Between the harness and the pedal straps I'm not worried about her at all. We whip through curvy sidewalk approaches, ride over and off of curbs, hit potholes, have managed to hit 28 mph... all without the first sign of problems. We get lots of looks and thumbs-up from people that see us. I would not hesitate to put a younger kid in this thing provided I had smooth terrain to ride.

You will feel a little twitch every now and then from your kid's weight shifting, but nothing that will shake your confidence. Yes, it is heavy. I won't list that as a negative though since you can't expect a bicycle product at this price to be light weight. It's not TOO heavy, but it isn't light by any stretch of the imagination.

If you're on the fence about this thing, go for it. You won't regret it a bit.

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

I bought our Weehoo i-Go Classic 4 weeks ago. My 4 year old daughter and I have clocked nearly 200 miles in that time on numerous and varied rides. I don't normally write product reviews, but I feel compelled both by my enthusiasm for this trailer and by my desire to give you the review that I wanted to read before buying.

Here's where I'm coming from. I'm an avid cyclist based in Seattle and have been riding my whole life. I've worked at bike shops, commuted to work, toured with a fully loaded bike, mountain biked all over the country, and then . . . I had a child. A lot of my biking came to a halt for the first 22 months. Then I got a rear bike seat which was a big hit with my daughter. Before long, we were doing 30+ mile rides without any complaints. This year, she finally got too heavy and tall for the bike seat. (She's a tall, skinny 35 lbs kid.) We borrowed a friend's Adams Trail-a-bike for a few months. I tuned it up and got it working well, but I had some problems with it. First, I didn't like the hitch. It has lots of loose play in the mechanism that causes the trailer to shift its weight side to side. And that's a problem because the weight of the child is up high causing your bike to shift quite a bit and causing you to be on constant guard to counteract and balance. I had to lower the seat to it's lowest position with the seat post clamp flipped forward to get a decent fit, but still it seemed like a stretch for her size. We had to make more stops for food and drinks because now she couldn't ride and snack at the same time like she could in the bike seat. Oh, and no more naps while riding either. Finally, after 10 miles on it, my daughter would complain that her wrists and hands were sore from hanging on to the wide bars. This is when I started looking for a better solution.

I'd seen the Weehoo i-Go on REI about a year before, but the price seemed out of reach at the time. When I started being able to ride less due to the Adams deficiencies, that price suddenly didn't seem so high. I did as much research as I could before buying, including calling Weehoo's support (and talking for 20 minutes to Jeff who is awesome) and convincing my friend to buy one first and give me a report. My friend bought the Pro without researching the differences. He thought it was great. After consulting with Weehoo about the differences, I bought the Classic. Here are the main differences you need to know. The biggest difference is the seat comes off easily on the Pro which is great for transporting in your trunk or on a hitch mounted bike rack. The Classic requires seat disassembly or chain removal to take the seat off and still you are left with a welded plate that might give you problems on your hitch mounted bike rack. Luckily, my rack just barely accommodates the Classic frame and so transporting is not a problem for us. The Classic seat adjustment (for leg reach) has detents every inch or so, while the Pro has infinite adjustment. They say the Pro weighs a bit less, but I don't care about that. The hitch has a slight redesign which does not affect performance, but does make attaching to your bike a tiny bit simpler. The Pro frame might have prettier welds according to Weehoo, but I couldn't detect a marked difference.

I've taken the Weehoo on about 15 outings in a month. Pick ups from school. Bike trail rides to parks. A three mile single track ride. Eighteen mile fire road ride with washboards. Thirty-three mile road ride with a halfway break at the beach. Not one single complaint from my daughter. She loves it and is always asking for more. Granted, I'm lucky to have a daughter who loves to bike with me, but I wouldn't able to do these rides with a different trail-a-bike and she doesn't want to sit in a trailer without getting to peddle.

Here's what's great about the Weehoo. My daughter is strapped in with a nice, comfortable harness in a cushy seat. Her weight is down low where it doesn't affect the feel of my bike. The hitch is completely different from other trailers. It uses your seat post as an axle which eliminates almost all loose play. It comes with bags which, while not as quality as nice panniers, are great for putting your kid's stuff in. Not only can your kid snack while peddling, the Weehoo comes with a cup holder and pocket for snacks that your kid can reach. My daughter can take a little snooze after a long day. The Weehoo is built very sturdily. It's heavy, but durable. I've bounced it around plenty and had it going very fast. It performs well.

Here's what I wish the Weehoo did differently. I wish the plastic bushing for the seat post hitch were made out of a more durable metal (bronze?). Mine certainly hasn't worn out, but I suspect it will eventually and will need replacing. Metal bushings are expensive and since the Weehoo comes with about 5 sizes, I can see why they couldn't provide this. A quick release axle for the wheel would be nice for removing the wheel easily for flat repair or transportation. I'm converting my hub to QR by replacing the stock axle with a QR axle for about $12. The crank arms are quite short—maybe the same as a 12" bike?—and I imagine my daughter will outgrow this size eventually. A geared version of the Weehoo would be great, but, again, I'm going to see if I can figure out a conversion to an internally geared hub.

Finally, I'm happy enough with the Weehoo to spend an hour of my day writing this review. I give it an enthusiastic five stars!

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

There is about a week long period of adjustment in getting use to the Wee-hoo. It "feels" as though the bike is going to flip while riding it (even on turns) and your center of gravity is definitely different, but it is a wonderful product.

My very tall daugher is three (and has grown out of all other bicycle baby seats). Moreover, she hasn't learned to ride a regular bike yet. We didn't want to be stuck inside all summer long, and we needed something that she would feel comfortable in- the seat is really comfortable and the storage bags are great for lunch, extra change of clothes, or toys.

Grant it the price will make you think twice, I still highly recommend the Wee-hoo. There is nothing else out there (internet or in-stores) like it. It is for toddlers not ready to manage their own bike, and adults who want to bike for more than a meager ten minutes before they hear "I'm tired. I want to go home."

The only true con is that while setting it up it tips over all of the time. I do not mean while you are riding it- just the daily assembly aspect! The company should have thrown in a kick stand or some stability device for the Wee-hoo. When putting the two bars/pipes into each other and the bike, lean your bike up against a car or tree so that when the weight shifts the two don't crash to the ground. With that being said, once your child gets in the Wee-hoo you absolutely need to be holding the bike at all times until you mount your own bike. After that you are very stable.

Sorry another con that doesn't inconvience me, but may do so to others- is that it cannot fit on a car bike rack. Thus, it has to go in the truck. I have a Toyota Matrix and only one kid so it works very well (one seat is down in the back and she sits in the other), but anyone with a small sedan may have to think twice about how they are going to get from trail to trail- even disassembled it is quite long. At least four feet, if not five.

A great pro I have to mention is that it has one wheel. At first I was very skeptical about the safety (and from the above notes- the tipping stinks during set-up), but the one wheel allows the bike to make sharp turns without having any hestitation that it is going to flip. My sister has an enclosed bike trailer (the ones with two wheels- sold everywhere) and she has flipped her kids more than once. With the one-wheel my daughter also doesn't feel every rock/bump because the Wee-hoo has a mountain bike tire, not those cheap thin street tires.

A note on stability- the Wee-hoo is actually attached to the frame of the adult bike so there are no worries about "a chain" or cheap hook-up unattaching and your child rolling off or over. Some other bike trailers in the past have had recalls due to their chains breaking, getting tangled, or not being correctly attached. There is no way to screw up the Wee-hoo attachment...two thick screws and bolts and you are ready to ride!

A side note- I installed additional full tire mud guards (front and back) on my adult bike so that I don't have to worry about dust or rock kick-up hitting my daughter. They give you a foot long mud guard, but that is completely insufficient even for street riding, and especially for trail riding- she was getting pelted left and right from the stuff my adult tires brought up from the ground. Invest in the additional mud guards- your child will thank you!

Although we got the Wee-hoo a few months ago, we have logged many hours riding it on limestone trails, paved trails, and even some dirt/mudded areas. Because it is such a great product I have taken time to hunt down many more trails in Chicagoland! Last word of caution- lock it up! Think about what you paid and how many strangers have said in passing "that is sooooo cool!"

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

This is a great alternative to a trailer or frame seat. My kid is a large 2 year old and he would have quickly outgrown a traditional seat. I know he would not like being enclosed in a trailer.

I had to order a new seat mount part from the company part as MY bike was stolen (luckily my wee hoo was in the house), they responded promptly to my email and have alread sent a replacement part. Great Customer Service!!!

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

I've spent the last year or so thinking about buying the Weehoo trailer. I liked it immediately upon seeing it, but the price was just so high, and we didn't cycle that frequently, so I couldn't justify it.

This year I started getting more active, and life with a toddler made it difficult to ever get any time on my bike. She hated the regular closed-in child carrier that my mom bought, and every attempted bike outing was just a miserable let-down for everyone involved. Finally I made up my mind to wait until the next 20% member coupon was released and go for it.

Well, we picked up the Weehoo three days ago, and today was the third day in a row that we went for a ride together! My almost 3-year-old LOVES it! The first day we rode 3 miles; the next day we rode 6; and today we had a proper outing and rode 7 miles out, enjoyed a picnic and ice cream, then rode 7 miles back. As we returned to the car, my daughter told me that this had been "the best day ever!"

The things I like about it (besides the general awesomeness of being able to go on rides with my daughter) are: it breaks down and fits in the trunk of my car, it's highly adjustable, it seems solid and built to last, it has enough storage for a short outing, it will fit my daughter for many years to come, and it can be locked up just fine with a U-lock. And while the trailer is heavy if I'm trying to carry it anywhere in my arms, it doesn't feel like much of anything once we start going.

The improvement I wish most for is a stand! Riding with a toddler means frequent stops whenever she drops her cup or wants Cheerios or even just to stop and get a good luck at whatever's caught her interest in the moment. We rode on a rail trail located in a wooded area today, so there was nothing to lean the trailer and my bike against even momentarily. This meant that every time we had to stop, I had to lean everything against my leg while I searched the panniers or strapped her in or took her out. It was awkward, heavy, and I was nervous about accidentally dropping everything, though I never did. It got easier the more I had to do it, but still, it would be nice to have a stand.

Comments about Weehoo i-Go Trailer Bike:

We use our Weehoo in NYC, mainly on the bike path on the Hudson. Amazing product from the get go. So easy to assemble and attach to a bike. One of the biggest draws for us was the fact that your little one can pitch in/pedal or rest without having to change any settings and the ability to go on longer rides with a smaller child because of the recumbent seat. The ride is smooth for both parties. Feels stable even through curves. Really don't know how we survived without one! Highly recommended.
