I use this primarily to carry textbooks. It seems to hold much more than my 16"w x 12"h x6"d leather dowel-top briefcase, probably because it is not rigid. I can even carry my laptop in the rear compartment along with the full load of books, something that was impossible before. The front and flap compartments are handy for pens, pencils, laptop mouse, calculator, etc. The shoulder strap is permanent, not detachable as shown in the description, but it seems solid enough that I don't worry about it breaking, even with heavy loads. Mesh water-bottle pockets are a plus. So far, it seems to be a great value!
