Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
Recently decided to get a new ski pack. I spent an hour checking out all of the snowsports packs and packing them full with shovel, probe, jacket, lashing on skis etc. The Fall Line 30 beat all of the others. The Avy pocket is easily accessed in front and has sleeves for the shovel handle and probe, I use a pretty large shovel blade and it fit without a problem. I like the drain hole at the bottom of this compartment.
The main pocket can be accessed from the back when you have your skis or board lashed on the pack, also nice for reaching whatever is at the bottom of the pack. Plenty of room on the waistbelt pockets for snacks and camera or GPS/Phone. The insulated hydration sleeve works well.
Super cool features: The straps infront for snowboard/snowshoes can be tucked away, all strap ends have a little keeper that keep them rolled up, helmet carrier, glove friendly buckles, cool color.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
Almost a great bag, but falls short in two ways: the H2O-proof zips for the main compartments are frustratingly hard to open and close; and the bag needs one more external pocket for goggles, tools, snacks, etc. Otherwise, a very decent pack. Carries skis comfortably and easily. Roomy, and, with the back-side zip, offers easy access. Nice, roomy hip-belt pockets that even hold my largish Canon G-12 camera. Nice color, too. Fix the zips, and it's a very good bag. Add another pocket, and it's a perfect bag for day long hikes into the backcountry. Holds your avy gear as well as extra layers, lunch, skins and more. Would not recommend without the fixes, however.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
This is a great ski pack that compares favorably with the Osprey Kode 30 in my opinion. The back panel access is very good, and gives good access to all your stuff without worrying about getting snow in the pack. The outer zippers on the older model are a little stiff; after a year and a half of pulling hard to get them open, the zipper on the outer compartment broke. I took it in to the store and they exchanged it for me (without a receipt) for a new one. The new zippers slide much more easily. The only other complaint I have is that it's a little short. I have a somewhat long torso, and the hip belt rides a little high. For this reason, it's probably not a good pack for someone tall. Other than that, it's ideal for a day in the backcountry.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
This is one of the most well thought out and designed packs I have ever purchased. Excellent size for backcountry skiing / snowboarding and everyday use. Although there are many excellent features there is also some areas that need improving to make it A+.Excellent features:* Reservoir system: easily accessible, large ports for threading in and out, dedicated pouch for bladder. Unlike other packs this hydration sleeve is easy to thread the hydration tube and L shaped mouth piece.* Strap design: can carry snowboard or skis, straps are easily tucked away when not being used. This helps for everyday use and give it a clean look.* Access to main compartment when skis or snowboard is mounted to the back of the pack. * Hip belt and shoulder straps has appropriate amount of padding and is not too bulky for daily use. * Hip belt pockets can carry energy bars, a small camera, keys. Perhaps a small phone. * Helmet hammock webbing is helpful and retracts into a small pocket.* Sternum strap is also an emergency whistle. Great design. Well done. Frustrating problem I experienced:The metal wire (a little thicker than 2 metal wire hangers) that gives the shape to the main compartment protruded through its stay and poked a hole in the bottom of the bag. I assume the metal bent and poked a hole as a result of being pushed into a trunk while on the go. About 4" of the metal was protruding through the bottom of the pack. It was not easily to correct and shove back in its channel stay and is the primary reason I am writing this review. I plan on bring the bag to REI to see what they can do to correct it. I love this bag but the zippers and this wire issue are my only gripe. Improvements needed to make a 5 star pack:*Improve zippers so they are easily opened. The waterproof coating on the zippers make opening the pack laborious (requires a firm grip with both hands). Not convenient and quite frustrating.* Correct the internal wire (so that it doesn't bend) and correct/fortify its channel bottom so that it won't break free and poke a hole in the bottom of the bag. * Add a small pocket for organized storage (phone, keys, wallet)I hope REI improves on this pack as it is simply one of the best designed, versatile and useful for winter or 4 season sports and everyday use. I look forward to buying another one if they make some improvements. There really is no other bag with these features at this price point on the market.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
I found this pack to be just about perfect. It holds the essentials, is quite comfortable (I forget that it's on), and after a year it almost looks brand new (durable). Skinning up a mountain in rain that turned to wet snow, I was pleased to reach the top and find that the extra layers I packed were bone dry. One reviewer noted zippers that didn't glide easily. True; but the waterproofing of them has held up so far, so you can find solace there. The belt pocket zippers are my only (minor) complaint. They in fact glide too easily, and I've found them opening a bit as the pack gets jostled and tossed about. Just wouldn't put anything too valuable there. All in all, this pack is great value.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
This is a great day bag that offers water tight zippers on the front of the pack. Has a good amount of storage room with comfortable straps. My only concern is that the zipper on the rear most access is not water resistant.

Comments about REI Fall Line 30 Ski Pack:
I bought this for backcountry skiing, but I have been using it for bicycle commuting. The pack holds lunch, a towel and a change of clothes. Really happy.
Ran into trouble biking home in a rain storm. The access zipper is not sealed like the outside zippers and my stuff got a litle wet. It would be great to see a lip over the zipper or a sealed zipper.
Service and delivery comments:
access zipper is not sealed and therefore let's water/moisture inside the dry area.
