Comments about Marmot Precip Full-Zip Rain Pants - Men's Long:

Everything the hiker reviewed on here is correct. I'm the exact same build but an all weather 365 degree cyclist, even in the harshest of winter conditions.

The full zip is brilliant because it makes it easy to take off if you're looking to strip and go in the shower quickly; you feel like a stripper.

The claminess inside happens because it's not really breathe-able, compounded with the 2.5 layers. GoreBike has the same pants that are one layer but have micropores that allow you to breathe.

I owned the Marmot pants for about a year and that's when they started to malfunction. One of the zippers ripped off the track at the bottom. But the most annoying part was the white material that coated the interior. Tons of mileage/friction made it all peel off and thus it became colder and not warm, rendering the pants useless.

Comments about Marmot Precip Full-Zip Rain Pants - Men's Long:

I like these pants, they pack pretty small, are easy to get on and off, fit well (I'm 6'-2 with a 34" inseam) and keep me dry. What more can you ask for in rain pants?

I have used them on numerous hikes and backpacking outings and often been glad I had them along. On an early-spring trip in the the Appalachians we ascended into a cloud, and it didn't stop raining until we hiked back down 48 hours later. I wore the Pre-cips literally the entire time I was not in my sleeping bag. Full zips make getting them on or off in a vestibule if not easy, at least possible.

I have also found they do very well in strong wind-driven rain (Point Reyes) and in the sort of Northern-California-winter deluge that sheets down your parka and legs. In these conditions it is important to get the draft flap behind the zippers in place and flat. I have found that rolling, rather than folding or stuffing for storage is a good way to make sure the flaps do not crease and compromise your protection. I have never had the guts to try a cool iron after washing as some advise.

These pants roll up to fit in an outside pocket of my pack (about the size of a 32 oz Nalgene) I usually pack them with the zipper sliders at the knee (zip up from the ankle and down from the waist to the same place) so I can get them on fast over boots but without having to start the zippers. The velcro at the waist allows for only a minimum of adjustment, but will hold your pants up until you get the zippers on going. The elastic is a little bulky under a hip belt, but acceptable. There is no fly (which is probably a good thing for waterproofness) so I usually un-velcro and unzip from the waist a bit.

In my experience, the pants are remarkably durable considering their weight (13.1 oz by my scale). Generally I try to be gentle, but sitting on granite (not sliding!) or following a group of scouts through the brush while they learn orienteering has been fine.

Like all waterproof things, it would be awesome if they were more breathable. I generally find that if it is raining but warm and/or I am very active, I am content to let my legs get wet, possibly using gaiters to keep the rain out of my boots. If it's cold and wet and I'm sedentary, the breathability is not of an issue and these work great. an I have occasionally used them for warmth even when it is not raining for this reason. If its cool and wet but I'm active, I do sometimes get a bit of clammy condensation, but I think that's normal and acceptable.

Overall great pants for tall guys who want to stay dry.
