Comments about Keen Alki Lace Shoes - Men's:
I have had my pair for a little less than 6 months and they are thoroughly spent. I work as an engineer and 85% of the time I am wearing these shoes I am seated at a desk. With that in mind I am extremely disappointed that the interior of the shoe has fallen apart.
The rear section of the shoe that cups the heel and the Achilles Tendon is supported by a hard plastic. The plastic piece ends about 4" inches from the rear of the shoe and has a sharp edge. On both shoes and on both sides of the foot, the plastic has cut through the interior lining of the shoe. The cut lining is now tearing and fraying. The worst part is that the plastic support now cuts into my foot on both sides and leaves blisters and bloody chafing. What was once a comfortable shoe is no longer wearable.
Most shoes will wear out comfortably but my pair tried to drag me down with them.

Comments about Keen Alki Lace Shoes - Men's:
I wear these shoes every day at work where I'm on my feet and moving around a lot. I love the comfort I get throughout the day, and the fact that I can leave work and go right to the trail. These shoes are great for day trips. You can walk all day and not feel a thing. I have been hiking several times in them and have never noticed any stability problems. If you're going 11 - 12 miles a day, lets face it, you're gonna need a specific boot. If you want to get up and go with adventure as your only goal. These are the shoes for you.

Comments about Keen Alki Lace Shoes - Men's:
I work as a hospitalist and use these most days of the week. I walk on concrete floors for 14 hours a day and they are great. They can get a bit hot at times when the outside temp gets up too high, but they are wonderful shoes. This is my second pair. The first one lasted 14 months of pretty much daily wear and still look good, but they were just ready to retire on principle.
They look good for business casual and a lab coat. The don't slip on wet tile and they hold up well against blood, fluids and industrial cleaning agents. My only complaint is I wish they had a shank so they would have lasted as long as the uppers did.
I wore them out with the family even taking short hikes (less than 10 miles) in them with absolutely no complaints. I definitely got my money's worth.

Comments about Keen Alki Lace Shoes - Men's:
I own three pairs of Keen shoes (including this style) and have been very impressed with their feel and comfort. Unfortunately, all three have worn out VERY quickly. The soles only lasted about six months before they started falling apart and all three have worn through. I can't wear them in the rain as the water will soak through immediately into the shoe. The tops still look great and function well, but if you don't have soles, you don't have shoes. I only walk a few miles a day on sidewalks!
I sent one pair back to Keen and they were great about replacing them, but I really don't want to have to go through the trouble. I'd rather just buy a pair of quality shoes that last a few years. It's a mystery to me how Keen could design great looking, comfortable shoes and then throw cheap soles on them. I'm not sure I'll ever buy another pair unless something drastic is done to boost the quality.

Comments about Keen Alki Lace Shoes - Men's:
Good looking shoes, and pretty comfortable, but after a month of wearing them they're already falling apart.
It's not obvious on a new pair, but the sole is made of a relatively thin sheet of tougher rubber glued onto a piece of softer, almost foamy rubber. Within a month, the two had started to separate, leaving me rather doubtful about the shoes' long-term longevity.
I've not even been hard on them: I wear them to walk to and from work, about a mile and a half total every day. I've worn them on a few short hikes (nothing longer than six miles, and nothing strenuous or rugged) as well. That's it.

My first pair of Keen's ... An excellent daily driver ... Will get you to work and back without issue. I'm a surgeon and am on my feet 12 plus hours daily ... My feet never get tired ... I've worn these daily for 6 months ... With suits or jeans.
My only complaint, the laces ... Tend to untie and shrewd easily ... Some stitching has come undone. Minor complaints, I know, but never an issue with my mephisto shoes.
I plan to travel in these shoes and don't feel a need to bring another pair. I'm hooked !

I share the views of other recent reviewers. I now have a love/hate relationship with Keen. When I first tried on the Alki, I was struck how comfortable it felt and that it looked better on my foot than on the rack. I wish I had read reviews before buying the shoe. It wore out within five months. The materials, particularly in the sole, seem to be of the cheapest quality, and the craftsmanship was of the lowest common denominator. My pair were made overseas. The message seems clear. Keen should stop outsourcing to unreliable overseas manufacturers and live with the higher prices it must charge for domestic-made footwear. I am heartened to see that Keen now has the No Po, a shoe made in the USA. The message may be getting through.

Work at hospital. On my feet for long periods. To maximize comfort I wear thick socks. Travel a lot. this shoe meets most of my needs when it comes to versatility. Not used for hiking. All my foot wear are keens do to my difficulty finding width and unmatched comfort. of all brands keen is my love for life. Whoever states shoes dont last long does not do proper measures to care for shoes or treats shoes like a disfunctional vintage viking. Not good to get wet when raining or near water. Leather may be damaged or appearance may change (from experience)
