The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
I picked this up today at the store. It looks like it just arrived at the store this week, since they were still putting the display up. I couldn't find much of a difference between this and the deluxe model besides a small extra zippered pocket. It fits my Greater Swiss Mountain Dog quite well, she is probably on the small end of the Large size right now, but she is only a year old (around 85lbs).
The backpack is better quality then some packs that I use myself, it looks like it will really hold up long term.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
I have a 3/4 Siberian Husky 1/4Rottweiler pup, about one and a half years old. He weighs 75 lbs. and the straps on the pack tighten just small enough for him. I am sure hes going to gain weight, so I think the bag will only fit better in time. But even though this pack is a little loose on him, it stays on very very well. We have never had a problem with the pack sliding off, I think this is attributed to the center strap connecting between the neck and under arm straps. For day outing its great because he can carry everything and my girlfriend and I can walk a little easier. For Backpacking its great too, because he can carry everything he needs for a week long hike, all his dry food, water, fold up bowl, comb and leash fits no problem. There are a lot of great features on this bag including the mesh top for air flow, the leash attachment, the handle that can unbuckle into a short leash, the reflectors, and the inward facing zippers are all appreciated when in use. Our most recent test that impressed me the most, was when I was walking him on a long leash on a narrow wall along a creek. His pack got caught on a fence causing him to fall off the wall into the water five or six feet below. But before he fell all the way I caught him buy the leash and had him hanging buy his pack four feet below me just above the water. I pulled him up quickly and we were on our way both still completely dry. Nothing ripped, and he seemed to be in no pain, because there are so many straps that his weight was distributed evenly like a climbing harness. And his pack was full of stuff, I cant think of a more strenuous test. Buy this pack, I yet to find one better for my best friend.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
Every time we go for a walk I am loaded down with drinks for me, water for her, water dish (collapsible), "slobber" rags, poop bags, treats, toys, stocking cap (for when the temp drops), and often other odds and ends. After a few hours of walking I'm usually ready to throw everything away cause I'm tired of carrying it! Now I can let her carry it.
I found it quite easy to put on her, and she never fidgeted or acted concerned about it being put on or while carrying it. It did not appear to impede her movement, nor seem to rub her anywhere.
I looked at other styles (thankfully I read the reviews in here first), but I liked the fact this had a mesh style webbing across her back-I thought that would be cooler for her than a solid piece, provide better ventilation.
It also made her pay more attention to her heel position since she now "had a job"!
So far I'm very happy with it, so is Josie. May deserve 5 stars, instead of the 4 I gave it, for the price.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
Excellent pack. The first we have found that fits our 130# English mastiff. She pranced around the neighborhood very comfortable with the chest strap. The side pockets are large, will make it so she can pack in her own food when we go backpacking. This pack is simple, it doesn't have tons hanging off of it like others I've seen. Those extras look pretty, but aren't very useful on a dogs pack. This is a great product!

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
I am really impressed with this back pack. My labrador, Harley, is one year old. He has alot of energy and was showing signs of boredom and a normal walk was not doing the trick for him. This bag goes on nicely and is fairly simple to fit with a few adjustments. He is 75 lbs right now and there is ample room for him to finish growing with this bag. The clasps are strong and hold the fit once you set it up. It is very well padded so it isn't irritating to his skin, and well ventilated across the back as well. The pockets are ample sized and the zippers work well. Definitely enough room for a couple of water bottles, bowl, bags for potty, etc. I popped a can of soup into each side tonight for our walk. We did our usual 2-3 miles and he was all business about it. He found a rhythm right away and took commands like a champ. When we got home that high energy was gone! Looking forward to hitting the trails with Harley once he gets accustomed to carrying the additional weight. Great product. I also looked at the Ultra bag, which is about $20 more...and there is no vast difference.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
I spent several hours reviewing various packs, primarily the "Rough Wear" brand. This pack compared very similarly to the Approach pack that RW makes. However, I do think it fit my Ridgeback much better and it was $20 cheaper. Time will tell how it holds up, but I am very happy with the construction and the way it fits. Take your pooch in to REI and try on all of them before you buy.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
The backpack was easy to put on the dog, and had plenty of space for the dogs bowl and a few water bottles. The only problem that my dog had was that the backpack had to be evenly weighted otherwise it would sag, which isn't a big deal at all.

Love the color. Set-up was pretty easy, once everything is adjusted you're ready to go and don't need to mess with it anymore. The price was great for the overall quality of the product. Only problem I have is: This is the largest size they make. The front part of the harness fits my dog perfectly with room to grow. He is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, roughly 105 lbs. The rear strap is snug, but that is all the way extended. I am going to contact REI to see if there is something they can do to modify the pack, possibly an extension or a redesign. If the rear strap were proportional to the front three I would have given this product 5 stars and I would have nothing bad to say at all.

Comments about REI Classic Dog Pack - Large:
The pack itself is awesome, but I would caution you about the size. I have a BIG DOG. She's a 100 pound Leonberger, and the only way to fit the large on her was to take the straps ALL THE WAY IN. It fits her... barely. She could have probably used the medium. So, really consider your dogs size before you buy and probably go down one lol. Now I have these long straps and am trying to tuck them in. It's a pain. But most of the packs out there, the biggest sizes won't fit my girl, so...
