Comments about Osprey Porter 65 Travel Pack:
I bought 2 of these for a trip to the Sacred Valley in Peru. My daughter and I had no problem fitting all of our intended gear in them because they are roomy. We have very different packing styles and both of us were pleased with our bags. I put everything in plastic bags and then add small things to the pockets. She puts everything possible in the pockets and then has the rest loose. We both liked the configuration of the interior and exterior pockets, the balance of the bag when packed and the structural stability for virtually no weight that the design affords.
Wheeled luggage is not very useful in the Sacred Valley. The sidewalks and streets would require luggage with baja tires so foregoing the weight of wheels and just going with the backpack style was a good choice. Luggage carts were free everywhere we went to so we didn't have to do much airport carrying. The bags were a little awkward to get on when fully packed but so is any type of large backpack. The rigging was adjustable enough to be useful and comfortable for us and I am less than 5 feet 2 inches tall. I could easily manage this on my back with my daypack on my front.
The handle placement on the outside of these bags is extremely intuitive, comfortable and useful. The quality is unquestionable. I had one string loop on a zipper break when I was yanking to close the bag in an overpacked state (Peru has amazing shopping!), which made it awkward to zip. I'm sure REI will replace that. I just used a little lock as a pull and that worked fine.
I would definitely repeat this purchase, especially for the quality/price. These were more useful than a full-sized backpacks for traveling as the contents were significantly more accessible and protected. They are also useful as duffle bags or suitcases on non-adventure trips.

Used this as a primary bag for an extended overseas vacation. A checked bag with airlines, but carried for train and city travel. The backpack straps were comfortable and effective.

Comments about Osprey Porter 65 Travel Pack:
I purchased this bag almost 3 years ago in preparation for a European summer trip (9 weeks long). We also had a couple other "carry-on" sized backpacks. In a nutshell, family members fight over who gets this bag. It fits an adequate amount of clothing and gear needed for an extended trip through Europe - or wherever, the sides of this bag are rigid so the bag always holds a nice shape. One of our others is too loose and looks/feels sloppy unless it is completely filled. It is accepted easily as a carry-on by airlines, so we never were forced to check in this bag. My teens use this on long weekend, school excursions. We are moving to Europe in a couple of months and we definitely pick up a couple more of these bags before we leave. I have never been so satisfied with a purchase. It fit our needs perfectly.

Comments about Osprey Porter 65 Travel Pack:
I actually have two of these packs. One in red, which I got for myself, which I fell in love with, and one in black for my brother. We're actually planning a two month long travel across Europe next year and I wanted something, not too bulky when sitting on my back, but still has a lot of space. Completely happy with this pack. The picture on the site shows it with a day pack attached to it. The two I purchased have extra straps to attach a day pack to it, but mine didn't come with it. I love it and can't wait to use it. I'll have to send in a new review after I've used it. Can't wait to take them abroad. Thanks REI.

After buying the 46, i bought this with a 20 dollar off coupon for longer term travel. I've used it twice, and the added shoulder straps help for the taller pack. Sometimes I wish the 46 had them also.

Comments about Osprey Porter 65 Travel Pack:
This is a great bag--simple, but very well built. You can use it as a backpack, but it's no backpack, and there are many other bags that are better for carrying long distances on your back. In a pinch it will work as a temporary method, and if fully loaded this is probably its most practical way of hauling. But it's far from comfortable for long periods. Also, it's no carry-on, but I'm assuming you know that already. But as a large, do everything and carry most anything, with multiple carrying options, it is awesome. I took it on trips to SE Asia and Europe as well as many shorter vacation trips, and am always happy with this thing. I can stuff it with clothes and other travel gear, along with my laptop (in its own separate case) and I only have to deal with one bag. It CAN get heavy, and if this is a concern I would look for a bag with wheels. But the main criticism I have with the Porter 65 is that it has no duffle carrying straps, or possibilities.
It's a little hard to explain, but you'll once you use it you'll see that it excels as a big, hold-all duffle that you can strap to your back. Once you reach your destination, you can unzip the back panel and basically live/work out of the spacious compartment. But moving the thing around in this position is problematic. If Osprey would add a simple open duffle set of carrying handles it would be awesome. I can't recall all the times I've opened the bag up and then had to move it elsewhere. The included handles are great if the bag is fully zipped, but not if in "mid process." Sounds like a little thing, but once you use it a bit, you'll see what I mean.
Still, it's a fine bag and close to perfect for its intended use.

Comments about Osprey Porter 65 Travel Pack:
This bag is great for what it is. It's not great for hiking, but i used it for a study abroad class in Costa Rica and then a backpacking trip afterwords around
Central America. It was great because i could fit a lot in it on the way down there and back , but when i left some of my stuff in the hostel for my travels it could be easily compressed. I Like how it could be easily opened like s suitcase so I could find things easily, when used with packing cubes. This is one well made bag, and was easily secured with luggage locks and cable cords. After three months it still looks almost new. A good travel bag, but not great for carrying heavy loads.
