We took this gear camping with us into the Grand Canyon. The first thing we noticed about this cookware was that it was so thin, it bent while packed in the backpack. (Either that, or it warped from the stove heat) After that, the lid just never fit onto the pots. Also, it would have been nice to have some kind of measuring scale so you could know how much water you were pouring into the pots.

Comments about REI Campware Backpacker Cookset - Small:

I bought this cookware for a trip to Mount Adams. I used it solely for melting and boiling snow for drinking water and water to add to Mountain House freeze dried foods. The folding handles were the best feature of this cookset. You could easily handle the cookset at any time with the handles and when done they fold nicely against the body of the pots. The smaller pot boiled water or snow very rapidly while the larger one took a little more time. If you prepare food in them and intend to eat right from the pot, I would recommend having a plastic spork type utensil so you don't scratch the inner teflon surface. When packing out, if you are using a compact isobutane stove system, one fuel tank (4 or 8 oz) will fit within the large pot on the bottom and your compact stove should fit into the smaller top pot within your back pack. It also comes soft packing material to put around your fuel tank and stove to protect the teflon and a net bag to cinch up and keep everything all together and tight when packing up. I would give it a five star except that the larger pot is a little bit flimsy due to it's light weight and aluminum construction, so you need to be careful not to put a big load at the top edge when alone as it will deform (ie don't try to dig out snow with the pot unless the snow is soft). You would have to spend more $$ and go titanium to avoid this problem. Once the set is packed up with both pots together for your pack it is very strong.
